Is anyone going to participate? I'm not a powerseller or anything, but some of these changes are just ridiculous as shit. No buyer feedback? What the fuck? Paypal holding money for 21 days? Seriously?

fuck that. i heard about that. fuck the new CEO fuck the new fees and fuck the new feedback system

but it doesnt hurt the buyers it hurts the sellers so I dont see any incentive for buyers to do shit.

thats the way that eBay is going though they value the buyers more than the sellers its fucking bullshit.

yes im an eBay powerseller, so my profanity is justified

Why would they make things that much more difficult for sellers? I understand that there are problems with fakes, but you shouldn't want to discourage the sellers to that extent. The only reason people go to ebay is to buy stuff. If you limit the sellers, there will be much less to buy and there will ultimately be a huge loss in profits for them.

found it pretty funny that the Ebay discussion area has a 200 page thread on this :P

theres also a petition for it apparently: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/690244098

On January 29, 2008, eBay Inc. announced a set of sweeping policy and fee changes that would negatively affect large numbers of sellers and buyers. Chief among these changes are increased final value fees, the dismantling of a mutual feedback system, and undefined Paypal hold periods.

The final value fee of the first $25 of any purchase has increased from 5.25% to 8.75%. The final value fee of eBay store items has increased from 10% to 12%. While eBay has reduced the insertion fees, the savings is wiped out by a disproportionately higher final value fee. We believe this change will hurt all sellers and hinder their ability to be competitive in the marketplace.

In May 2008, the mutual feedback system will be drastically altered. Buyers will continue to be able to leave positive or negative feedback on transactions; sellers will be restricted to leaving only positive feedback for their buyers, regardless of the outcome of the transaction. The role of feedback has consistently been to protect buyers and sellers. We do not believe this will protect sellers. We believe this new policy will increase fraud and feedback extortion on eBay. It will increase non-paying bidders and lead to an overall unwarranted increase in negative feedback for sellers, which will in turn make more buyers reticent about buying on eBay.

Starting February 20, 2008, if eBay has a reason to think that a transaction might result in the buyer being unsatisfied, Paypal will withhold the transaction funds from the seller for 21 days. The criteria for determining which transactions will end in buyer dissatisfaction has not been clearly defined. Sellers have no way of knowing if their transactions will fall into that category.

Sellers have been the cornerstone of eBay since it was founded 13 years ago. We feel that eBay is taking advantage of us. These newest changes have proven to us that we are not a prime concern to eBay and we have no reason to believe that we will be in the future.

We, the sellers and buyers of eBay, agree to refrain from buying and selling on eBay the week of February 18-25th, 2008.

Please contact your local news stations about these changes and the ongoing resistance from eBay users. And take a minute to explore the other auction and classifieds sites that are out there. Consider boycotting eBay longer than one week if possible.

i'm totally on board with this.

they've been making too much money, imo, for the little support that they offer when shit goes wrong. i've been ripped off both as a seller and a buyer, but they just act like it's all my problem when they're charging a bunch of fees that should cover these things.

now, how could we screw with paypal? they suck too.

I'm down with all those changes except the fee increases but I haven't used ebay in months anyways.

Retaining the money on suspicious activities could prove a boon, if it is managed correctly, as it would help buyers recuperate the fees taken from fraudulent sellers.

The feedback system is fucked and encourages buyers who get fakes/bad quality to settle it outside ebay to avoid receiving a negative feedback if they give one.

I think it's the same situation as the writers strike, the corporations want to make more money by screwing the little guy and the buyers or viewers dont give a fuck as long as they get thier television shows/products cheap.

fuck that. the sellers are getting screwed here and the system is getting changed to favor the corporation and the buyer and screwing the person in the middle who actually does the dirty work.

Agreed. Power sellers have almost no fear of negative feedback and will use that power to force buyers into not leaving any negative feedback (i.e. "whatever feedback I get, you get").

But, I think sellers should be able to leave neutral feedback.

One idea I heard (not from ebay, just some random internet audiophile) is to have 'secret voting' feedback.

Buyers and sellers both submit their feedback within X days, then after the window closes the feedback is public and no changes can be made.

The biggest problem is if something goes wrong and then the buyer/seller really does bend over backwards to make everything better, and in order to avoid this the X day period would have to be lengthened, which leads to less 'up to date' feedback ratings.

I think it could work though. Seems better than the current system or ebay's proposed one.
