Is it a simple job to alter suit trousers a whole size?

Hi all

I'm thinking about buying some new suit trousers online, so can't try them on. If I get a 32, is it a relatively simple job for a tailor to make the waist smaller, maybe to a 30 if need be?

Anything's possible...just make sure that the back pockets aren't going to look strange if they were closer together.
