What are the best 1947 501 repro's?

I get the impression that the stuff that LVC is putting out today isn't as good as some of the imitators.

Is that the case?

Are there companies that make a better reproduction version of the 1947 501 than Levi's itself?

Sugar Cane seems good, but all I can base that on is internet pictures and hearsay.

well for starters, while the 47s might not be as amazing as when they were produced in SF, they're still solid, and i think everyone should have a go at breaking them in. they're reasonably priced, good quality and fairly accessible.

that said, it seems like every jean manufactuer in japan makes a 47 repo. sugarcanes are great too, so are denime, studio d'artisan, warehouse, samurai, eternal .... and the list really goes on [there are dozens and dozens].

they all do an interesting take on the 47 - some with a comedic twist, like studio d'artisans leather guarantee tag depicting 2 pigs trying to pull apart a pair of jeans. on some of them the denim is really amazing - top notch cotton and indigo - but so is the price you'll have to pay to buy them, fly them, and pay import duties..

lvc is still great, and so are the japanese takes. pick the best one for your budget and wear it all the time. then try a different pair the next time around. you'll have time for all of them. post pics when you decide!
