This was one of my least favorite years for music since I started paying attention (not that long ago). Just about every new CD I bought was slightly worse than the artist's last. With the exception of Jana Hunter and Shearwater, I wouldn't even recommend any of these CDs to someone who isn't already a fan.

Other stuff I heard and but didn't really like too much: Animal Collective, Of Montreal, Peanut Butter Wolf, Bloc Party, Justice, MIA, One AM Radio, All Smiles, Deerhoof, Eulogies, and Aesop Rock.

I never really gave the Deerhoof album a chance, but really liked what I did hear off of that. Same for the Battles album- I can say though that the tour for Mirrored was great.

Also, I didn't try as hard as I usually do to check out new bands.

Kanye's album started out strong and actually grew on me - plus some of his non-album tracks were incredible (Throw Some D's, Can't Tell Me Nothing remix w/ Jeezy, Young Folks & Buy U A Drank freestyles, Good Night, Classic aka Better Than I've Ever Been, Us Placers).... what a year.

Aside from the rap on the list, there were a lot of other solid releases - including Razah's other LP, Prodigy, Common, Percee P, Pharaohe Monch, and whatever crap makes its way onto Lil' Wayne mixtapes (Drought 3, "leaked" Carter 3 tracks). And that's not even considering what's released/been leaked in December: Wu, Ghost, Scarface, Beans, SP, Freeway, DJ Drama...
