I'm getting shafted by the public libraries

Shit...just got a letter from the credit agency/etc and they're billing me for 120 bucks in library fines from years ago....wtf? Called the library and they won't waive, even after I told them I lost my wallet/card years ago. Man up and pay the fines? Is that the only thing I can do?

I worked at a library for a few years before I went to college and it's amazing how much those book fines add up. I forget the policy, but after the second or third late notice we would send the fees to a collection agency for them to handle it. The biggest debt I ever saw was $300 for some lost text books. Losing your card means nothing, everything is stored on computers these days so nothing is ever forgotten.

When my hard drive crashed I sent it in to a data recovery company that said they would pay for shipping.

A couple months later UPS sent me a letter with a bill for 30 dollars, never paid it. Fuck them.

Libraries are insane for bills. I used to go to this library that had max fines of how much the books cost. My new library just charges and charges. Anyways, they send emails to my old email account every month letting me know until one day I got this phone call telling me about 200 bucks in fines. Yeah that's 10 cents a week.

Ten bucks a month? Cause otherwise you've had that book out for 38 years - probably ok you should be paying the 200$ then.

It definitely sucks but just man up and pay it. You don't want library fees to affect your credit.

switch your address and accept mail not having to do with credit under a different name, avoid any building of $ cred
