Can anyone give me any intelligence on Copenhagen?

Visiting in March and would like to check out good design and architecture as well as the usual

hubs, bars, cafes, galleries, or anything my radar might not usually pick up!

Definitly go to Zoo bar on Pilestrædet. Tell the cab driver to driver down "Pilestrædet" towards "Højbro plads", when he get to "Strøget" you should be able to see it on the right. It's right next to Streetmachine and near Café Kethup and Café Sommersko which you can also check out.

Zoo Bar is decorated by my fave Danish artist Kristian Hornsleth. www.hornsleth.com. Wish there was a galleri sporting him, but nobody will have him. Haha.

They usually have some okay DJ's spinning and a good mood and atmosphere at Zoo.

1) Kunstindustrimuseet (Danish Museum of Decorative Art) just wrapped up a cool exhibition about the Heritage of Bauhaus. The Ulm School of Design and such.

Very difficult, and very expensive, yes. But if you're only here for a couple of months, it shouldn't be too hard. A bit difficult if you dont speak/read Danish, but check out http://www.dba.dk/asp/Soegning/soegning.asp?RubrikId=1400 and go for "fremleje" - temporary rentable apartments. If you get the choise (which is unlikely) go for something in Kbh. N(nørrebro), V(vesterbro), K(downtown) or Ø(østerbro)

you can rent a bike pretty much anywhere in the city for free (you leave a deposit of about 5$ and get it back when you return the bike). you can return the bike anywhere and Copenhagen couldn't really be more bike friendly so i highly recommend doing that cause it makes getting around enjoyable and you might see some stuff that you wouldn't otherwise. Cristiana is a cool to visit, although last time i was there there were more cops than ppl, but it's still really interesting. food is damm expensive so try to be careful with eating out if you're on a budget.

I'm going to be attending the University of Copenhagen for a year in August and I just thought I'd see if I could get any tips on places to go, things to see and what not. I've read the SuperCities Guide, but I'm sure there's more to know than what's posted there. I've been doing my research and just wanted to get a local perspective.

You should definitely visit shops like; Il, Storm, ParisTexas and Mads Nørgaard. If you've already visited Krystalgade, then I'm guessing you've already been to WoodWood and Vibskov.

You can use www.aok.dk to find the addresses of the shops. They are all placed in inner Copenhagen.

In terms of bars/clubs, our night's usually started at Stereo Bar, or Zoo Bar (http://www.zoobar.dk/) since DJ TOM + Trentemøller played every other Friday. I hear Stereo Bar has new ownership but if you are looking for hippster decadence, I guess Stereo Bar has the edge, or at least DID, since Bloc Party and Interpol visited after their concerts when we were busy hanging all over the bar.

If you are in Vesterbro, get to Boutique Lize before the lines start. Enjoy the reel-to-reels with everything from The Cure to the Rolling Stones. You can stay there until it closes and then head over to Ideal Bar which closes in the early morning, 6am if I recall. Then you can wander out with all the people you met to get some breakfast.

If you are in Nørrebro, stop by to check out what's going on at Rust but I would recommend going to the Oak Room for some chit chat and good mixed drinks. I'm not sure you would classify that as hippster but check it out

DAKOTA Bar pay something like 75 dkk and free beer and champaign all night...

Kulorbar does the same thing but it's only until midnight (?). Lots of international students.
