Would you buy... the best among the worst or the worst among the best?

for eg... recently i am into watches and the fact is that i don't want to fork out more than $2000 for one... so i can only buy into the low end model of high end brand like Breitling... Tag Heuer.... Omega... which looks crappy......

On the other hand if i were to channel my $2000 into russian watches... i could get some of the best of em......

What would you guys do in situation like this? Would you buy... the best among the worst or the worst among the best just for the brand sake?

research more about watches and figure out the "benchmarks"

For watches (my personal)

1. $25 casio

2. $200 citizen nighthawk

3. ~3-4k Rolex

And if i'm spending over 4k then i'll probably wait to save up 20 g's for a patek/lange/breguet

And spend/save accordingly. Personally though, i'd spend the 2k on a really nice vintage rolex from a reputable vintage shop
