Can you bring razor blades on a plane?

Recommended Posts

Try to get whatever miles program you have to the point where you have a private check-in. The shit they let you take one the plane with you is absolutely scary. Last time when I was flying with my father, I was getting pissed off while packing because of all the stuff I can't take with me, but he just told me to pack it and not worry about it.

I passed through Vienna->Frankfurt->NYC with:

- a razor and 4 double sided razor blades

- a swiss army knife

- three bottles of cologne each larger than 100ml

- a 1.5l bottle of orange juice

That was my carry-on.

I don't know if it's special treatment or just lazyness. In Vienna, there was no line for the priority carry-on screening, but a few others were also there, because first class passengers also get to use it. In Frankfurt, HON Circle members and their families have their own terminal, and the screening has its own staff of four that have to check maybe one person per hour. Similarly, I've seen the driver play Nintendo DS in the waiting room a few times.

I didn't try taking the stuff back with me from NYC because my experience is that the general safety procedure is to treat all foreigners like shit regardless of how they are flying.

guess it really depends on the airport, and they're probably more lazy in the priority lines or something. in Finland I had a bottle of drink with me and I also beeped when going through the gate, I just showed the guy I had a metal belt buckle and moved on. In Paris I couldn't take a half-full 125ml tube of hand lotion because the limit for liquids and such is 100ml :rolleyes:

I strongly believe that the TSA is pretty screwed up and the variety I've seen in thoroughness from airport to airport is staggering. I've been told to go back for having a bottle of water, and then I've unknowingly brought sharp objects onto a plane with no problem.

dudes and dudettes,

a couple weeks ago arriving in Atlanta from Rio, i had some hand cream that was more than 100mL and various other gels that were OK, but i had forgotten a Ziploc bag, and i totally sweet-talked my way through security to my connecting flight. i was basically like, "do i REALLY have to throw these away just becuase i don't have a bag?" and they looked through my bag, saw my too-big hand cream, and waved me through. the guys were jack-asses but i got what i wanted in the end. kind of ridiculous, really. they made an exception for me for no real reason. although i still don't understand why they don't hand out Ziploc bags at ALL the airports (in DC area airports they do).
