I would like to know how people go about doing their WAYWT pics.

How do you choose your location?

And how much thought process goes into it.

Do you like to list your clothing items.

Do you list them from head to toe?

Does your pic reflect your mood?

Tripod?

Camera type?

Mirror guy?

Do you feel awkward when you do it?

Do you leave messages (inside jokes, notes, hellos, or just venting) to others and yourself?

Do you think about rep when you post?

Just trying to get people's mindset when doing them.

Having been to a few meetups, i love watching people think out their WAYWT.

i really get into my WAYWT, just recently too, with the purchase of my new nikon d80.

i have 9 or 10 locations i already know in and around milwaukee, and i just explore beyond that. i find a good backdrop, then i pick a certain angle or body position that will compliment the picture. manual focus, self timer, watching people look at me like i'm a jackass, then i rush home to photoshop, crop, the works.

if you're going to put pictures of yourself online, don't be an eyesore.

I do mine on my back porch. There isn't anyone around when i do it (except one time my neighbor was on her porch but she couldn't see what i was doing). I put the camera on self time and place it upon a little electrical box about 3 feet high. Most of the time i list my clothes head to toe and not much else goes into it. I usually will take 3-4 pictures and then post 1 main one and then another with a hidden picture click option.

I chose my location through noticing a bridge/large drainage ditch that allows me to walk to another nearby neighborhood through a small field area. Not alot of thought went into the creation of a WAYWT pic by me, but the thought behind it grew and is still growing. I add subliminal messages in them sometimes like the direction I look in coupled with themes I've had conversation with friends about.

No, I don't like to list clothing items, people sometimes have preconcieved notions about certain brands and think it'll make or break a fit. A couple of people have mistaken the branding of a particular pair of jeans that I wear most of the time I wear in my WAYWT pics; I think it's cool that people sometimes think my jeans cost hundreds of dollars when they were only $32 on sale. I make them look that good, and in a sense, I take pride in that.

My pics sometimes reflect my mood, my aura as some would call it. I've only tried to portray a feeling that I wasn't really feeling in my pic a few times. I try to create a sense of atmosphere, and one of familiarity through posting in the same area repeatedly. I use a tripod most of the time, and a 10 sec. self-timer. I've used either a Samsung Digimax D53 5MP, or a Cannon Powershot A75 with 3.2MP. I can't really bother to take pics in a mirror, doesn't capture everything.

At first I felt awkward when I did it, but I, and the people around me have grown accustomed to it. I love doing it nowadays. Sometimes it's too hot, sometimes the area is a little flooded, so I end up not doing them everyday. I have a sort of attachment to the area I usually take my WAYWT pics at, so I take them there unless it's by request not to or I feel the need to expand on variety of location.

I take mine in front of my condo where there's a little sitting area with a couple chairs and just place my camera on the arm of one of the chairs since I don't have a tripod.

I usually don't show my entire face, maybe I'm still a little nervous about posting my whole mug on the internet. Even though it shouldn't matter and would probly never happen, I think deep down I'm a little scared of one of my friends catching me posting in the WAYWT even though they'd probly never visit any of the message boards I post on.

I probly should take more time to plot out my pics every day instead of simply taking photos around my house...maybe one of these days I'll spice it up a little instead of using my usual spot. I guess in the end it's really not as important or exciting for me as it is for others on here. A lot of people seem to make it look like a part-time job or something.

My style isn't anything to drool over anyway so maybe that's part of the reason I don't take my photos as seriously as so many others that post on here.

I feel the same way about this statement too. I met mrip a couple of times and he thought I was wearing A.P.C. raw jeans but they were Uniqlo raw denim. I don't like listing what I wear for the same reasons as un- mentioned but if someone asks what I wore, then I'll tell him/her.

If I'm in the mood, I'll do a WAYWT picture but the camera I have right now, which is an Olympus Stylus 410, does not really do what I want it to do in terms of taking clear night shots. I'm looking into getting a Canon Digital Rebel XTI and once I get that, I'll take more WAYWT pictures. I either place my camera on top of my car or use a small tabletop tripod to take my pictures. The pictures I've taken so far don't reflect my mood.

How do you choose your location?

I don't

And how much thought process goes into it.

Very little, I take them as soon as I wake up.

Do you like to list your clothing items.

No. It's not like the mark or anything matters. If someone wants to know about an item, they can pm or whatever. This has nothing to do with preconceived notions, more with being lazy. It's easy to tell anyway.

Do you list them from head to toe?

I JUST FUCKIN ANSWERED THIS PEICE O SHIT.

Does your pic reflect your mood?

not really, camera BLOCKS da face

Tripod?

don't have one

Camera type?

old school minolta slr

Mirror guy?

HELL YES

Do you feel awkward when you do it?

no, no one can see me. i feel awkward getting the film developed.

my location's largely dictated by my need for a waist high something flat, so i can set the camera on it as i dont have nor care to bother with a tripod. i set down the camera, hit the self timer, and step back a ways. the "dino hunch/pose" came about as a sort of waywt side effect from just wanting my whole body in the frame as well as being close enough to see some detail. i always list the brands of my clothing items (only the ones of which half the article is clearly visible) and the brands only. not listing anything i find to be a tad pretentious, and listing everything (ie model, year, blah blah) i think looks like ones trying to hard. nothing about the picture reflects my mood outside of my facial expression, which is most times blank and doesnt tell much to begin with. the cameras an average digital point 'n' shoot (sony cybershot). i hate using mirrors and thus never do. i feel pretty awkward doing it, and for that reason almost always do it in seclusion. although meetup pictures are always exciting, making me feel at ease knowing the dudes next to me all do the same dumb thing. theyre pretty much always outside because thats where the lightings the best. i dont have any photo editing software other than the "preview" program that comes standard on my apple, and with that i crop the pictures so theyre portrait instead on landscape, and if needed, adjust the levels so the colors are more life-like or not as washed out

I just get my brother to snap my shots for me.

Simple point and shoot camera, Canon SD600... I know a thing or too about messing with the Manual mode setting so it shoots a lot better.

All I need is good lighting, and any spot will do.

To add to that, if someone does ask what brand of item I wore and whatnot, I don't write them off as being someone who thinks that a certain article of clothing makes or breaks a fit if it's a certain brand. I'd like to think that people usually ask if something is a certain brand to identify because of a possible purchase of that item or something of that nature, so I wouldn't automatically assume a person is the type I mentioned earlier just because they inquire about the brand of a particular item I'm wearing.

My methods and locations are usually at home in my back courtyard - self timer on table with brickwall background. In front of a mirror when I arrive at work (least prefered method). Get someone else to take it for me at work while we are doing other shots. First two methods use my casio exilim. The later I use whatever work cam is floating around, usually a dslr.

Eh i dont feel awkward. Sometimes i email the photo to friends with a little "incase you are missing me" message attached if I am bored at work.

I list my items. Head down. Saves people having to ask if they are curious.

I take most of my pics on the back porch of my condo. I try to find different locations to make things more interesting. I find a great outfit can look poor in the same boring location, and a boring outfit can look interesting with a good backdrop. Usually my more adventerous shots are taken on weekends in seattle when i have time to explore new surroundings. Sometimes I list what i'm wearing and sometimes I don't. Usually it doesnt change much from day to day. I do feel awkward doing it, especially when my girlfriend is watching. It's a difficult thing to explain to someone, why do you do this? My answer is I like to contribute to a thread that gives me so many ideas. It's also good to receive constructive criticism, but unfortunately that doesn't happen much around here.

I use some cheap camera that belongs to my girlfriend. I usually find a ledge, table, or anything that's at least 4' above the ground. My pictures dont really reveal my mood, I find it easier not to look at the camera but down and to the side.

i do them when i feel like i have something new i'm wearing and when i have the time.

i do them around the house and look for proper places so the camera doesn't fall.

my pic reflects nothing but what i am wearing because i have a shit camera and don't give much else thought about it and it shows. hah.

and i prefer to chop or blur my face, prefer no mirror shots, and i list relevant brands.

my self-timer does 4 shots each time and i prolly do it two or three times (16 poor fotos) of which i pick the least sad or awkward.

i find the whole thing embarassing, but fun. so i prefer privacy... :]

Back in college I was limited to using my dorm room since there were so many people around all the time, I'd occasionally wander around my campus though for scenery. Nowadays, wherever I go I have my backpack with my camera in it. So if i'm alone and find a cool secluded location, I scope it out to see what angles work best with lighting. I find something to put the camera on or I set it on my car and set the self-timer. 4 or 5 photos later I'm done and I head out.

Selective beef has gotten me hooked on night time photos though, it adds such dynamics to the shot. If I'm hanging out with friends during the day though, I'll probably end up using one of the photos taken of me as a waywt or I ask my buddie's to take photos of me, to which they often say "what are you wearing today?.......okay"

i go out back of my office, light a smoke, set the timer, set the camera down on an upside down garbage can, put my back against the wall, and wait for the camera to take the pic. then i rotate and upload it.

camera: polaroid POS. 2 mp i think.

How do you choose your location?

the location chooses me. i carry my cam everywhere and when the mood strikes, i take a snap. usually, i only have the free moment while waiting for trains, as evidenced by 95% of my waywt pics; or on weekends when i mosy down to the river or into the woods...

And how much thought process goes into it.

no thought. self-timer takes 5 pics at a time and i give it maybe 3 goes. sometimes it works out. usually it does not. i am not very good at taking pictures, but i am just starting to re-learn the fundamentals. i try to stand still instead of taking moving shots because it makes things so much simpler.

Do you like to list your clothing items.

no. but it is better than getting PM'd or being asked to provide the laundrylist.

Do you list them from head to toe?

yes. and i try to only include visible items.

Does your pic reflect your mood?

my environment affects my mood. the pic of my environment (in which my organism is immersed) is an indicator of my interior life.

Tripod?

gorillapod

Camera type?

canon powershot

Mirror guy?

never. the mirror conceals.

Do you feel awkward when you do it?

always.

How do you choose your location?

In front of mirror

And how much thought process goes into it.

Not much, pretty much the same pose every time and focus sent on auto, take a volley of shots and keep the less blurry one, no photoshopping, no cropping.

Do you like to list your clothing items.

Yes, I’d like everyone to do the same as it gives you some ideas of where to look and sometimes challenges your perception of a brand

Do you list them from head to toe?

Usually what is visible, sometimes ad belt

Does your pic reflect your mood?

Not consciously

Tripod?

No

Camera type?

DSLR

Mirror guy?

Yes

Do you feel awkward when you do it?

No

my process goes something like this:

1. think to myself, 'i should post a waywt pic, all the cool kids do it'

2. look down, realize i'm wearing the same boring shit as always (thrift/h&m/aa top, the 21cms i've been breaking in for months, vans/nosweat chucks)

3. remember i don't own a decent camera anyway, and don't really care enough to get one

4. given 2 and 3, try to remember why i hang out here in the first place

5. post some dumb shit in trash

repeat as necessary, etc.

How do you choose your location? Usually my apartment, because no one else is there. On occasion, I've posted candid shots taken for other purposes. I wish I could do this more often.

And how much thought process goes into it. Not much. I will try and get good light, whether indoors or out.

Do you like to list your clothing items. Yes.

Do you list them from head to toe? Yes.

Does your pic reflect your mood? No.

Tripod? No.

Camera type? Nikon POS.

Mirror guy? No.

Do you feel awkward when you do it? YES.

Do you leave messages (inside jokes, notes, hellos, or just venting) to others and yourself? Rarely. Occasionally, just to mitigate the awkwardness/vanity of the concept, I type something self-deprecating. But that can just make it more awkward.

New question: do you ever take a few shots, get home and put them on the computer, and then not post any? I say yes.

How do you choose your location?

i carry my cam with me all the time and I look out for nice spots wherever I happen to be, if not, there's always the staircase leading to my flat. Architectural elements and strong graphic patterns are my favorite

And how much thought process goes into it?

Multiple shots with timer. I try a few different angles and postures.

Some colour tweaking (shit colour from shit camera) and cropping before posting

Do you like to list your clothing items?

Used to, but not anymore. Like the outfits to be seen for what it is, not what labels there are on it.

Do you list them from head to toe?

yes, when I do list.

Does your pic reflect your mood?

not quite. but I make a lot of stupid faces.

Tripod?

no. I improvise with what's available, ledges, tables, floor, books...

Camera type?

exilim EX-Z850 dummy digi cam

Mirror guy?

No.

Do you feel awkward when you do it?

Only when taking pictures in a public space

Do you leave messages (inside jokes, notes, hellos, or just venting) to others and yourself?

Sometimes. Secret pics when I have more than 1 good pic, and quote-of-the-day

Do you think about rep when you post?

happy to get rep but it's ok if I get none.

Do you ever take a few shots, get home and put them on the computer, and then not post any?

yes
