Thailand/Ko Samui in October - too wet?

I'm in Thailand (first time) for the last 2 weeks in October, my intention was to go to Ko Samui, but a few people have told me that the monsoon weather is worst on Ko Samui at that time of year. How bad does it get? I want to spend at least a week of my trip lying on a beach doing fuck-all, and I don't want rained on!

I was in Bangkok at the very beginning of October last year and it was wet, humid, overcast and flooded after torrential rain almost every day. I don't know about the Islands but further North most of the country was seriously flooded. It rained twice a day and the sky was overcast until the very end of the month when it started perking up.

According to the statistics, October is the second wettest month of the year in Koh Samui - only November is worse. Best months to visit are May to September. Still, you might get lucky.. Someone visited the island in November for two weeks once and it rained only three times.
