S/S 07 Juma Collection

Im a torontonian and im defenitely going to show some love for our homegrown designers.. This isnt designer of the week, but I thought id post this brother/daughter combination. This line is for the females. As i know right now, juma are focusing on the female line.

Juma:

Company Profile JUMA is a rapidly growing luxury fashion design company specializing in womens' high-fashion ready-to-wear, active sportswear and other products. The company designs, markets, manufactures and distributes the product ranges to leading specialty stores, franchise retailers and boutiques. Founded in Toronto, Canada in 2003, the eponymous label JUMA developed by Alia Juma (Design Director) and Jamil Juma (Creative Director) has enjoyed significant expansion in Canada, United States and Japan.

Alia and Jamil Juma founded JUMA to create the luxury line with a commitment to quality and innovation. Their line is carried in coveted retailers including Fred Segal in LA, Caravan in NY and many others. They have been featured in such international publications as Elle Canada, Fashion Quarterly Magazine (FQ magazine), Fashion Magazine, Sportswear International, National Post as well as Fashion Television, Rogers Television and Life Network. They have held runway shows during Toronto Fashion Week where they have collaborated with BMW, Elle Canada, L'Oreal, TD Bank, TFI and several other companies.

Designer Bios:

Former actress and model Alia attended George Brown College and worked as a production design intern at various design houses. An undergrad with a degree in Biosystems Engineering from McGill University, Jamil worked as an investment strategist before entering the fashion industry.

Both Alia and Jamil are well traveled and have lived in exotic locales such as Kenya, Congo and Kazakhstan as well as all over North America. In their spare time, the siblings have actively volunteered with various charities.

In 2003, the pair set out to create luxury clothing for women. As Design Director, Alia organizes and implements activities related to product design and development, manufacturing and distribution. Creative Director Jamil leads the company’s strategic plans and policies and manages the overall image and positioning of the JUMA brand. Together they co-design the collection, with a clear vision of the JUMA look and an instinctive understanding of the fashion marketplace.

I find that juma has very nice silouhettes..Very contemporary and easy going.. The fact that Toronto is starting to grow into a much more prosperus industry for fashion, this is a good start IMO.. Toronto designers are really starting to show much improvement and potential and strength.
