exactly what is dry denim?

excuse my ignorance, but I'm not a huge denim afficianado, and I was wondering what all this talk of dry denim was. Never washing your jeans?? EVER? what's is this stuff?!

dry denim, in the most basic definition, has not been wash at the factory. they're made straight from the denim fabric and then sold. the reason for not washing dry denim frequently are twofold, one is if you don't want to alter the fabric material or shrinkage, two is if you want to create whiskers or folds contoured to your body. practically, unless you dry clean the jeans, you'll have to wash after a few months as they stink pretty badly.

the whole point of this practice is to get a pair of jeans to become a sort of second skin to your body, and that's the beauty of dry denim.
