my girlfriend and i have this idea for a lifestyle shop that would actually be, for all intents and purposes, a 'lived-in' apartment. and everything in the store would be for sale, and stock would rotate as things were sold... after a few weeks on the floor, items would begin to be marked down...

rest assured, it would be the most awesome store you ever shopped in.

any financial backers?

It's been done - a furniture store in Toronto does it already.

a. the furniture store only sells furniture right? not what we're going for.

b. Apartment in Soho is fucking so horrible; when we heard someone was doing

that we were excited that maybe someone might've picked our brains subliminally

and turned it into the kind of place we'd love to shop. unfortunately, we were wrong.

No - i believe they sell everything - plates, cups, rugs, plants, lights, etc, etc. Basically anything in the 'apartment'.

Minus clothes, I'm sure.

that's interesting...

our idea is focused on clothing, yes, but also art, books/magazines, music, cultural bits n' pieces and knick-knacks, and so on. more so the things you find in an apartment rather than the things you furnish an apartment with.

the idea is to have it feel like you're hanging out at your friends place and see something you like and want and need to own. we were actually also discussing also serving food in the shop as well.. or at least drinks.

literally, come in, say hey, get a drink, sit at the kitchen table, oh look some new

books, hey i like this, buy it, finish yr drink, oh no you don't have to leave have another on the house, sit there and read some of the book, think "man this place is awesome",

come back, welcome to the bedroom, oh shit this shirt is awesome, try it on in the bathroom, check yourself out in the full length mirror, buy it, tell everyone you know that you found the greatest store ever, the end. something like that.

i actually own/run a boutique that is very similar in concept.

the biggest differences are:

1. i generally only stock used merchandise

2. tops sold only come in small or medium

3. slacks denim only come is 28-30

4. shoes/sneakers sold come in 8.5-9 (this does vary from time to time).

5. store hour operations vary and are usually very short.

6. my boutique is exclusive. we take appointments, but usually go about invitations.

7. we rarely serve food or drink. although complimentary alcohol has been known to flow usually if the client is an attractive female.

8. no credit cards or checks, cash only

9. we don't pay our taxes
