Ageha (Tokyo)

Was there this last weekend and it was packed out!!!! The music was really disappointing though, cheesy as f*ck. Still, 5000 sweaty japanese dudes, poolside go-go dancers, and an orgy room more than made up for it. I love it here in the summer when they set up a little fake beach with sand and palm trees on the terrace, looking over Tokyo bay, and you can watch the sun come up over the water.

Tomorrow night! The best party - straight or gay - in tokyo right now. A fashion/media-heavy crowd dressed up in glamtrash stitch and mix designer gear, lots of sparkly eye make up and a rock/electro soundtrack. Last time I was there the crowd went wild for Lenny kravitz "Are you gonna go my way" and the DJ was tall and glamorous, wearing thigh-high red boots, a sparkly red minidress and a red motorcycle helmet. With a beard.

Milk (tokyo)

Went to an awesoooome one-off gay night at Milk once. There was an all-drag queen punk band, followed by Kylie, some spacey dub, and a pierced skaterboy rocking to a thrashy version of "I Got You babe".Then a hot buff dude dancing like Usher. Downstairs was a lounge playing 60s Jpop and TV themes and upstairs had straight 50s porno projected onto the walls. One of the dragqueens was having a birthday so a shaved-headed boy came out in Speedos with a Birthday cake melting on his head and people took turns licking it off. Then there was fighting with plastic swords. Awesome night. Anyone know what it was called??

I didnt expect much from the Seoul gay scene but it was, surprisingly, wild. So many Koreans told me "there are no gays in this country..." and then I walked into this club and there was a halfnaked dude hanging from the ceiling upside down on a swing. The crowd was showering him with won notes...Another time a gorgeous statuesque model ripped off her top and boogied topless on a podium, just jeans, perfect breasts, big Gucci shades and a handbag. I later discovered it was korean transexual pop star Harisu.

Freakazoid (Melbourne)

This club was the best. Ahhh...memories. RIP Freakazoid. They closed it down to turn it into flats.

Gay beach, posto 9, Ipanema (Rio)

Rio De Janeiro. Gay. Beach. What more do I have to say? Big, buff, brown and bulging in all the right places. This has to be the most beautiful beach in the world. Actually though I didnt hit many clubs there . Heard there was one called "Masters of the Universe" which is cool, but I never made it.

I wanna hear more about the scene in totally obscure, nonwestern countries. A friend of mine was once posted for work to Dubai, where of course, homosexuality is completely illegal. But the gay scene, while concealed, was pretty hopping. He certainly didnt have any problems findng "company". This story cracks me up ; apparently someone decided to open a gay bar there. They chose the location carefully (opposite a hotel where flight crews stay ... but then the problem remained - a bar with only men - isnt that too obvious?

Solution? Fly in a load of Ukrainian hookers. Their only purpose was to stand around being female, to put the authorities off the scent. Problem was hookers attract straight men, which attracts trouble for the bar (though possibly a hot f*ck for lucky clients?).

So they decided to hire only the ugliest Ukrainian hookers they could find.

What a job - stand there and be ugly.

The straight men kept coming though so apparently now the bar is segregated with an invisible line down the middle- one side all undercover homos mingling, the other side ugly hos and the men who love them.

just a side tip for those of you coming to Rio, the gay beach is not actually at Posto 9, it's a little bit to the left (if you're looking at the ocean) at the end of Rua Farme de Amoedo. there's a big gay flag in case you're direction-impaired. and i second your assessment, it has to be the most beautiful beach in the world. men from Rio are just so fucking beautiful.

the biggest gay club here is Le Boy, i haven't ever heard of this Masters of the Universe place. are you sure that's what it's called?

honestly the scene here isn't that great unless you want a series of one-night stands with drunk European tourists or male prostitutes. i used to live in Chicago and it was way more bangin' there. but there there was no beach, the grass is always greener.

and to think just last week i was seriously contemplating moving to Dubai for work . . . and wondering if it was a good idea sexual-orientation-wise. and then i happen upon your little tidbit about the hooker-camouflaged bar. hilarious.

That Dubai story was very funny. I used to live in Boystown here in Chicago, and whenever I visit friends anywhere else I forget how decent it is. What you say about tourists still applies in Chicago, as it seems to attract a huge amount of gay tourists picking up guide books-- the result of this is that certain bars are just statistically jam-packed with foreign and older men who are international and domestic tourists. If you ever feel like playing lost in translation, Side Tracks is usually first on the list. It's a monster though, so it could just be that it attracts everyone.

"Masters of the Universe" was actually supposed to be across the bay, in Niteroi. But as I say, I never made it there and it would have been, what, 6 years ago now? I agree with you, the the gay scene in Rio wasnt as bangin as a major US or European city, or Sao Paolo , but again, as you say ...the men...the beaches....the romance! It would still have to be one of my faves....

I read that the Sao Paolo club The Week is opening a Rio offshoot soon. That should be hot...

as a gay 'mag', i frequent to the gay bars in seattle quite often with my mang-friends, so i thought i'd contribute!

the cuff

usually when we end up at this club where they blast gay porn on their monitors all night, i usually end up having have to leave alone. i wonder why? the music isn't so hot, but the dance floor is ginormous, the outside patio is a size of another club.

re-bar

depends on the night, but they have surprisingly 'good' house nights equipped with seattle's finest drags. the place gets moderately packed, and it's a nice little getaway from capitoll hill to downtown area.

r-place

this is where the younger, hip boys usually hang out at. wednesday night's wet brief contest and porn-karaoke is a must-see event. it is ridiculosly funny.

neighbors

their thursday night 80's gig is probably one of the most favored 80's night in seattle, for both gay and the straight crowd. they also go past 2am (which is the bar close time in seattle) to 4am; after hours style. the floor gets PACKED, i mean PACKED.

then there's some bars.

fashion and health conscious types hang out at this bar, located in between seattle's finest dive bars. the place has a futuristic decor; chessy in a way but this is probably my favorite gay bar in town. not to mention they have music videos playing all night on their monitors, 30% good.

thee dive gay bar of seattle. pool tables, pull tabs, darts; you name it, they have it. they serve the stiffest drinks in town, imo. no ego, no attitude, really nice and chill place for anyone to hang out at.

Lumpini Park is an interesting place, like the Central Park of Bangkok, as it's situated in the center of town right next to the financial district of Sathorn and Silom Road. It's also the place where the political movement met to rally against the PM about a year ago. In the mornings, older Thai senior citizens gather for Tai Chi. There's also the Venice Beach-style weight-lifting area you mentioned.

At night, however, Lumpini is known for the numerous young street walkers that stand by the sidewalks waiting for cars to slowly drive by while passengers browse. There are two main sides to the park: a lighted side and a darkened fenced side. Obviously, the younger, more "attractive" girls stand in the lighted zone, while pimps on motorcycles hover in the shadows. On the dark fenced-in area, some hideous scags meander around parked cars, watching for the rare, brave (or maybe desperate soul) to come by. Price is around 400-500 baht or around 10-14 dollars and another 250 baht for a nearby shorttime hotel. Quality is pretty poor so you get what you pay for. Lumpini is known as the place where taxi drivers go to "party". The girls here are all from the Isaan or Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai area. Some of purchased from their parents and are essentially working off a form of indentured servitude.

Sticking to the original threat topic, I've never seen boys around the area. I think most are supposed to be around the Sanam Leung area, close to the Khaosan Road. Most of the up-scale local gay crowd parties around a strip of bars at Lang Suan (i.e., 70's Bar). Silom Soi 2, basically the gay red light district, caters mostly to the western farangs who prefer that scene. Silom Soi 4 is the classic Patpong area, who to the female go-go dancers and infamous "shows" featuring birthday cakes, razor blades, blowguns, ping pong balls, etc. I think England has discussed this street before in earlier threads.

I guess Bangkok has a little something for everyone. Interesting thread though....

The Week http://www.theweek.com.br, the São Paulo gay megaclub, opened their Rio branch last month. i went in late July. it's only open on Saturdays. awesome, awesome club, on par with places i've been in Europe and Miami for sure. what's great about it: music is awesome, people are really good-looking and FRIENDLY, there are hot go-go dancers (dressed as Spartans the night i went) and it doesn't seem like 98% of the people are on drugs or trying to sell them to you. most of the guys had their shirts off and were wearing sunglasses, which i hadn't seen anywhere else here. there's also a little bit of a Studio 54 vibe goin' on in there, with absurdly old men and trophy women lewdly making out in corners. didn't get to check out the VIP upstairs, still have to figure out how to get that fucking wristband.

according to a magazine article i read, they are going to be opening a pool soon in an as-yet-unfinished area of the club, which is going to be SWEET. although that begs the question, what do you wear? do you wear your swimsuit under your jeans? i can't imagine people in the main room are going to be wearing their sungas dancing around, that would be too weird even for here.

this club is a definite must for any gay visitor to Rio.
