Some friends and I are on a new literary blog about Tokyo to be launched May 1st.

The site is called Hitotoki (Japanese for "moment" or "time"

http://www.hitotoki.org

It'll be a collection of personal stories from outsiders who have passed through Tokyo, or foreign residents.

Stories of specific moments at specific locations in Tokyo, that defined at least part of what Tokyo means to you.

The primary goal is good reading, but we're also hoping that travelers and residents use the site to find new points of interest.

The requirements:

* 200-500 words

* a location

* an accompanying photo if you got one

We're launching on May 1st, making the first submission deadline April 23rd,

If you've been to Tokyo and are interested in writing, here's the submission form (2kb .zip with .txt file inside)

logo design footnote:

For Non-Japanese speakers, the outer shape of each stamp is the Japanese phonetic equivalent of what's written in English.

We carved these from stone, here stamped on a kleenex.

We're happy to announce that hitotoki.org has launched.

www.hitotoki.org

Thanks to everyone who submitted their hitotoki.

The response was surprising and encouraging, allowing us to launch

with a handful of stories covering a wide range of the city: from

Mister Donuts in Senzoku, to a land-fill-park in Koto-ku, to a sailor-

uniformed girl's back-alley badminton romp in Dogenzaka. If you

weren't included in this first batch, don't fret! We'll be parceling

out many of the other stories over the next few weeks.

_

The site will be updated regularly.

Get the latest hitotoki stories delivered to you by subscribing to

our rss feed:

_

Send us your hitotoki!

We hope this first installment inspires some of you who may have

wanted to send something in but didn't quite know how it was going to

fit. The submissions form is, as always, here:

hitotoki.org/hitotoki_submission.rtf

Thanks again for all of your support.

Paul.

yeah, we may one day expand the model to other cities if enough interest is shown, but to be honest, Tokyo is the only city I know that has awaken those special moments in me (and in the people I have talked with - both people living or having passed through the city).

Where do you live and have you checked some of the stories? Did it remind you of similar moments you had in those other cities?

If it did, that's interesting. please let us know more.

cheers

Why don't you write for hitotoki about one of your many suffocating experiences. We accept those stories too actually. Did you even read the submission guidelines?

And you are right, there are many other places also worth writing about. Why don't you help us set up a Hitotoki branch of the site for another one of your favorite destinations?! :P
