Official Superfuture Marvel vs. Capcom and X-Men vs. Street Fighter Thread.

Recommended Posts

Back when I was a little chap(which was not too long ago) I use to practice playing Street Fighter games for endless hours on end. I even bought the arcade controller so I could practice as if I were playing in an arcade. Unlike the ps1 controller, this had a joystick so you could act as if you were in the arcade. After about a year or two of playing I started entering tournaments at the Metreon in San Francisco with a few friends. This is where tons of asian kids bring their skills (and their asian dime piece girlfriend and/or cheerleaders) and compete against other athletes. I remember placing 3rd under my friend who placed 1st and a rival of ours who placed 2nd. I use to play this online against other players of equal or higher calibur. Overtime less and less people play any of these games anymore (MvC, MvC2, XmenvSF, SNKvC, etc) so I kind of stopped.

Sigh.

Favorite playable character(s): Strider Hiryu, Jill, Storm, Spiderman, Felicia.

POST STREET FIGHTER SHIT!

All the smart, cool and mostly freshmen kids played these games back at Uni. It took all their time and opportunities for better grades and ladies away from them and over to the people who played in the billiards area. Witnessing these guys furiously tapping combos away all day was way more hilarious than those zombies playing multiplayer PC games but the most entertaining bunch where the overweight-caucasian-Dance-Dance-Revolution-freaks.

thread-hi-jack:

Horray to you all who had such excellent mental skills that could have been breaking test-curve-scores as freshmen but instead chose to waste it to pursue that 100+ hit combo. Most of 'em met their doom (and fell prey to an all-consuming obsession of) trying to beat that 5th year bully-nerd who would actually set up his own chair in front of the arcade console. If it wasn't for the fact that he could hold on to a gpa that kept him from getting kicked out of school I would swear him to have been an autistic savant.

I could never decide you was cooler, Ken or Ryu.

ken had a mullet, ryu was cooler.

i remember right after i started college, i downloaded emulators of all the old consoles (NES, SNES, sega, etc) and like thousands of game. for my first semester, i spent pretty much all my time in class playing either street fighter or punch out, with the occasionnal games of zelda, king kong or skate or die. then i got into started playing fifa online with my classmates....

I tried to get good at MvC2 but was mediocre at best. I think people who play all top tier characters on their team are no fun. You gotta choose your favorite chars and become good with them!

Captain America/Storm/Doc Doom ftw!

I like playing fighting games, but I never got hella good at them because learning combos and nuances of each character felt like work to me. I have alot of friends that are pretty good, but it took hella practice to get there. I'd rather be medicore and have fun than slave away at a game so I could beat that one guy at the arcade.

With that said, I liked SF 3 Third Strike as a competitve game more than MVC 2. Everyone plays the same team in MVC 2 and spam their helpers so much it's like a spasm. Once the novelty of a new versus game wore off I ended up playing Third Strike or KOF more.

syca, so many people play mvc2. maybe your arcade is just crap.

ps3 has tekken 5 dark ressurection, which is doing very nicely.

If you remember I'm in San Francisco. That very day mentioned in my first post there was nearly 60 players or more if I'm not mistaken. The ranking went up to top 10 players or so and I happened to place 3rd losing to my friend and a crazy korean.

i remember they first announced venom being in the marvel vs capcom series. i was excited! serious fuckin dissapointment when i played him. I thought he'd be similar to spiderman not a blob. my favorite characters were strider and captain commando in a pink suit. we should have a sufu bay area meet to play the mvsc series, xvssf series, etc. sucked when they switched it to 4 buttons. i kinda missed doing air combos hitting jab, short, strong, forward, fierce, and then roundhouse.

mvc2 is the shit, i still play my brothers dreamcast, shitty controller and all, every once and a while. im not very good at it thought, i used a cheap ass team and still get my ass kicked, ryu, cable, and bb.hood, the 3 person attack was a 100+ hit combo.

Guilty Gears.

All I'm saying.

Hell yeah. I was really into the Guilty Gear game that was released overseas for the Dreamcast, one of my friends had it along with the Japanese Dreamcast, so we clocked mad hours on that.

I copped Guilty Gear XX for PS2, but I didn't get a chance to play it as much as I would've liked, by the time it came out, my friends weren't into the series like they were before.

But back to SF and MvC2 .. SF2 is still one of my favorite games, I got my SNES hooked up with Super SF 2 Turbo (The one with Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long and a couple other extra characters). I like SF2 Turbo better, but I need to get that cartridge again.

Me and my friends all really got into MvC2 while we were in high school, I still have that game for my Dreamcast somewhere .. but my favorite characters are: Ryu, Spider Man, Magneto, and Strider.

These spinoffs sucked. Pure Street Fighter series was where it was at. By the time the Capcom/Marvel games came around, most arcades were dead or dying out and PC games became the alternative.

Word. Used to spend countless hours at the local mall arcade playing Street Fighter 2. Good memories...
