Shorts / Swim Trunks

I've seen the cargo shorts thread and a couple others; unfortunately, most of the items in them are from older seasons and probably can't be found easily.

I'm looking for some non-cargo, non-boardshorts, NON-denim shorts that are a bit slimmer, and not super long, as many shorts are. Somewhere above the knee...........in this range:

(as funny as pictures of super short denim butt shorts are, I already own tons of super short denim butt shorts so no need to bother)

Haven't found anything good at my usual resource (Polo).

Also, I have been considering (flame on ha hah) some 50's style shites.......not supergay Italian speedo euro-trash style, but some short"er" linen type shorts.....James Bond style.......

Cosby 07 shorts were kind of cool.

You dudes seen any nice shorts / trunks lately?

i guess you can find these shorts at lacoste/Ralph laurent and the like.

Unfortunately, no good ones at RL this season.

I don't want 'tennis' shorts like in the picture I posted (which Lacoste will surely only carry)..........just posted it for reference.

are you talking about any shorts or trunks in general? prl ALWAYS comes correct with their shorts. did you check out the oxford prospect short? those are my go-tos.

Yeah, but I am looking for a specific cut. Other than those tennis shorts, RL doesn't have any that are the cut I'm looking for.

Hermes has some very nice ones (in the $200-300 range if you look on bluefly.com) and Marc by Marc if you're in for something cheaper. I think I'm gonna buy a pair and just wear em as shorts this summer. [edit: swim trunks, that is]

i really like these shorts. margaret howell's, i think they're current season. no luck finding them though. but i think they're longer than what's been asked. i just got a pair of rrl's on ebay, i'll tell you how they work out.

Not bad; you could always get a pair of relaxed fit blue chinos and make your own......

that's what i plan to do, england. i'm just looking for back pockets i actually like.

Nice.

I should take Digitaldenim's recommendation and try to make some of my own with old pants too.

Unfortunately, I just 'cleaned out' my closet and gave about 100 pairs of pants to Goodwill............damn.

RL makes Madras shorts as well.

I'm pretty much looking for 'shorter' vintage-y type shorts. Unfortunately, I can't find any pics to represent them.

Think of what Sean Connery might have worn to the beach as James Bond.........that's all I've got. :o

Not bad dudes, thanks. Never seen those AA ones; their 'poplin' model looks good as well........might be worth trying em' on if they're cheap anyway; not sure how comfortable I'd be buying them otherwise; the ol' boys may hang out of the bottom.

Raf ones are a good length, but damn are they wide.

I think that shorter shorts often look odd with a tee and shoes, etc. but if you've got the body for it and are just wearing them to kick around the beach, they can look great. Of course, uber-white legs don't help either........:P

well, it seems like all the designers are doing the shorter lengths. Not sure if I'm comfortable with that. Maybe just a tad longer.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, I like my shorts to be around the start of my knee caps. I find that is a good length. Or do you guys find that too baggy?

I think that shorts of all lengths can look great. I have shorts that are both above and below the knee.

The catch is that none of them are super "wide" and baggy," which is what can make shorts look crappy, imo. In other words, length is a lesser concern that fit to me.

I like those but the rise is too low... I think shorts generally look better with a longish rise.
