Vice Moving?

I heard about Vice closing up shop a couple weeks back. With Jetrag and them gone it looks like the strip before Bathurst is going completely commercial. Who knows, maybe someone'll find a way to squeeze in another Gap or 'oh-so-trendy' Diesel boutique.

those that think Vice had been doing well are sadly mistaken...

queen st. has alot of traffic, but very little purchasing...most people that do end up buying something pick up a tee or cap...with the rent on queen (specifically that portion of queen) being what it is, making ends meet ain't easy...

add to the fact that in terms of pricing, they've always been reasonable...they were doing evisu joints for $200 cad...i mean, c'mon...and cats were still begging for a deal...

in the end, with that portion of queen st taking the commerical route, there was really no way for them to compete....sad but true...

The only stuff that does sell on Queen are really the commercial brands. Niche brands pop up from time to time but most never manage to dent the market. It's a wonder how some of those stores stay open even with their regular customers. Due West even tried pushing Evisu and Levi's Red a few years back with no success. People only started buying when the stuff was marked down 60-70% and even then I saw the stuff just sitting around for 6 months.

totally agree with you guys, people spend more money sitting in gay coffeeshops then going out and buy something nice for themselves. The only time I see people actually buying is on boxing day. I hope Vice dosen't quit the game cause I think their one of the few true streetwear stores in Toronto. And if Vice closes think how long until places like Delphic or Reset start to run into trouble. Its good that Nomad is doing its thing but if other places start closing down then that is not good in general for Toronto. dunno, just giving my 2 cents....

-don't hate, appreciate-

well from what i know, which isn't much, vice isn't interested in retail anymore.

and i don't think delphic will be going anywhere. i think they are a true testament to longevity in toronto. OG heads will remember no.6 before any of the streetwear boom on queen.

just a heads-up for ppl who're interested in what Vice still has to offer...their stussy t's are still full-price, but they've got some recon stuff for 40% off, as well as some other stuff for 30% off...all Stussy jewellery and accessories are also 30% off....all shoes are 50% off and they've got Corpus jeans going for $99..reg. price $295...decent deal for anyone who's interested...they've got about 5 pairs left...different cuts..

peace

I remember going to Vice about a year ago, and found the staff really helpful. They drew out a map of all the places in the area that I should hit (Delphic, Jet Rag, Good Foot, etc.). It seemed to me that they were more interested in me finding what I wanted, than making a sale. Ended up picking up a few shirts from them though.

I'm kind of sad to hear that Jet Rag has closed down... the people were really nice there too. Got to hang out with the manager for a bit too! She was kind of cute...

Well looks like Vice is now completely gone. Walked past the store yesterday and the only thing left was an old PM dawn album sitting in front of the window. Another surprise was that Charmis Couture down the street looked like it was closing down too. Everything was moved out. Wonder if C squared will be next and who'll be moving into the neighborhood?

I miss the LA store, the staff was always pretty helpful and nice.

Was in the NY store and the girl said that they were keeping the store but getting rid of the clothes. As per someone else's post, it would become a media outlet for mags books, tshirts and toys. They have lost interest in retail.

Oh well.
