New Romanticism Revival

Spandau Ballet - Gold... Possibly the best Karaoke song EVER!

When you say Romanticism, do you mean like the fashion? The first thing that pops to mind are those Japanese kids who dress like Final Fantasy charachters! Haha

I think that if people remade those kind of clothes with a more slim, modern sillouette, it might look ok. The 80s was just completely off the wall with teh whole fashion thing anyway...

THAT'S RIGHT I'M STARTING THIS SHIT.

NO FRONTING

that means you, village people.

i think you missed this by like 4 years. Fisherspooner, ladytron, and a billion other bands that couldn't write a song but had enough money for an SH-101 already did this. People need to understand that even the shitty stuff back in the day, the people could write a tune w/o a synth

yeah but they were lame. especially ladytron.

yohji yamamato is already bringing back the pants and shit and i'm pretty sure raf simons and everybody else is making fuller cuts like the '40s imitation shit they were on. i must admit spandau ballet's later suits were sweet.

west, west, west....

they're saying nouveau in that video, not newro. and, those chicks are dressed like yippies, not new romantics.

when i think of newro, i first think of adam and the motherfucking ants. that was before newro had fully splintered from the post-punk scene, and before it had turned into a fruitier-dressed version of new wave.

who remembers Visage's "Fade To Grey"? better yet, who recognized the melody from "Fade To Grey" in Kelly Osbourne's "One Word"? even better yet, who isn't ashamed to admit that Kelly Osbourne's album Sleeping In the Nothing is a fantastic fucking album (mostly due to the fact that Linda Perry wrote the entire thing)?

yes adam and the ants were great i should post up some of their ridiculous shit..."i'm the dandy highwayman" lol. Iron is that I was listening to "Fade to Grey" just today. I'm just not sure what needs to be put up on here and what doesn't. Amazulu aren't even related to the shit; they were new wave at their edgiest, the video just killed me. don't worry omc, there is method to the madness. originally i wanted this to be newro only, but i realized that the 1980s had so many fucking ridiculous things that i couldn't ignore the crazy shit. therefore i'm just dedicating this to ridiculous shit from the 80s...

you're probably going to say that's already been revived in many forms. and you're right. i'm merely assuming that the public consciousness has such a short attention span that they've already forgotten things that happened last year. no need to drop knowledge on me on this, i already know what's up.

edit: i take that back. what the fuck is this yippie shit you're telling me about. i always thought that yippies were like the weathermen and days of rage.

"fade to grey" is the shit.

i actually don't think enough of this 80s stuff has received its due, a lot of the 80s revivalism has been at the surface, not really a genuine re-appreciation of the decade. its been all ironic t-shirts and shitty dance parties.

grace jones style power-dressing needs a come back.

EDIT: i do this thing on myspace called "j's crashback flashback" and

the "culture vulture news" where i post up old videos and whatnot... today's

was the banned version of Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur". good shit. especially the topless dame and the lace tights.... mmmmm... fucking sooo good.

good shit man...i like the era when all of duran duran were running around like homos

btw man do you think the futurists can be considered newro? e.g. gary numan prolly not, not humanist enough, but what about depeche mode?

I AM MAKING A NEW ROMANTIC/NEW WAVE SONG.

What do you guys want it to be like? The only requirements that I'm forcing on it are that it MUST have SDSV and some sort of arpeggiated synth. Bass, melodies, lyrics, all of that is up to you. You can even decide what you guys want the drum pattern to be. At this point of time I have access to enough samples that I can replicate most of this stuff.

MAY THE SUGGESTIONS FLOW

send me an mp3 por favor? i promise i will not beat jack...i'm doing this for fun and for me.

btw how did you do the SDSV? i plan on sampling but i might find a good emulator or actually purchase the instrument if i can find a kit.

nah man the shit is just fucking amazing. best drum sound ever. i live on the shit. only thing equal to it is that 808 kick and cowbell or the 909 clap. shit is ridiculous.

edit: Linn is pretty good too...Numan style

superedit: listen to "poison arrow" off of Lexicon of Love by ABC and you'll see why i love the shit. it's dramatic; not quite like the drums on "in the air tonight" but they're fuckin' great.

AND DONT CALL IT SILLY.

violent hippies. started lots of riots. e.g. the weathermen.

haha, um, NO. Yippies != Weather. The Yippies were best known for disruptive political performance art - i.e. stopping the NYSE by dumping a briefcase of cash over the trading floor. While there was a sizable Yippie contingent that got their asses kicked at the Weather-organized Days of Rage in '69, they really were quite different and certainly were never involved in the various Weather Undergound bombings and shootouts.
