Chainstichers?

I've been wondering this for a while, but are there any sewing machines being made nowadays that are capable of doing the same type of chain stich as the vintage union specials? Theres this serger from joann fabrics: http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=106969&PRODID=116813

It says it can chainstich but if I remember correctly there's 2 kinds of chainstich one of which is single threaded and shitty or something, which lead me to my question...

the kind of chainstitch used for jeans requires a commercial machine that you won't be able to get. a serger is different from a sewing machine.
