well, im not so knowledgable on the electronic front. as far as im concerned, the only electronic bands i need to know are daft punk, some of the early stuff from faust and Can (despite being know as rock bands, their experiments with electronic music). oh yeah. kraftwerk.

school me some electronicz musak.

at least you like can and kraftwerk. faust? weren't they kinda psychedelic? am i thinking of the right artist?

what happened to MBV? they arent electronic to u???

somewhat.. they mostly manipulated guitars with simple analog processors and early digital technology, in terms of electronic music, its actually quite basic what they were doing. they used a lot of tape loops and analog echo/delay pedals/modules. towards the tail end of their career, they started incorporating a lot more "digital" technology, only cause it was available and made for a better live sound. studio they always stuck by very analog and primitive methods of achieving their sound.

see westsides post

krautrockerz sun

krautrock.. is what i should have originally referred to.

so like they're.. primitive electronica? i guess.

sorry for calling them bands. is that a electronic faux-pa? i consider daft punk a band for the sheer reason they play instruments (keyboards and computers) live, but i could be misinterpretting how real fans view them. like i said, i dunno much.

generally band is lyk...RAWK BAND...electronic music comes from composition, there were instruments etc (moog comes 2 mind...as well as a few others) but for the most part the shit was so fukn expensive and large there was no way you could recreate the shit live until recent times. kraftwerk did a really good job at it tho bak in the dai. there r others who do it 2 lyk chicane one of my favez has a crazy ass live.

jmat- pm me a link please.

well, i understand the creation of electronic music, i just dont understand why it can't be referred to as a "band" kind of genre. there are plenty of electronic artists, m83 for example, for consider themselves bands. now, obviously their not a dance music band, but they do ambient electronica based music.

anyways, west or maybe jmat, make me a beginners mix/ dl link?

thanks if you can help me out in any way. i really think electronic music is some cool shit, and i let on that i dont know anything, but im very up on the technology considering i run ableton at my friends studio. but past that much, im very guitar based in my knowledge.

how many people here still listen to edbangers (besides a couple of busy p remixes and kavinsky)??

i do. sebastiAn mostly, he's #1 for me. i'd be more into justice if they kept with their Nazis remix/waters of nazareth sound. erol's W.O.N. remix, DVNO remixes, stress re-edit, etc. i still love all ed banger dispite the hype, even uffie. she's dumb, lyrics suck, but something still draws me to her. plus, feadz' humanoid remix is out soon and that shit is fucking nuts. also kavinsky isn't on ed recs.

i call justice electro. they are influenced by french house, but they is not fraunch house.

daft punk iz french hause. bangalter solo, french haus.

electronic groups can be called bands. depends on how they record albums and how they perform live. if they play live with instruments and record live to tape, then i will call them a band. depeche mode are a group. DAF are a band. [NDW for life]]

can and faust are krautrock, krautrock is actually part of the proto-electronic music lineage, but there is a reason the genre name contains the word 'rock'. their use of electronics didnt even include actual synths until much later in their careers.

mbv? electronic? who was smokin' marion barry flakes?

mbv is noted for using synths and keyboards early in their career (This is Your Bloody Valentine) due to being a pre-shoegaze version (more in line with depeche mode in their goth tendencies) as well as later, notably on Loveless as texturing (think "Touched" and the reverse loop on "Loomer", the synth strings on "To Here Knows When")

This thread makes me like JMatsu quite a bit.

Good music picks, both in confirming some of my faves, and suggesting shit I've never even heard of.

thanks, but you should actually give it up to omc.

Word.

By the way, don't know if you copped that CC tee thru westie yet, but if you were wondering, they look fuckin awesome in person. A girl I work with has one of the really old ones (CC is from Toronto...) and it's sex.

I kind of want a van she tee, since it comes with original presets and avalanches materiel, but they're like 60$.
