PBJ-004 -- sizing and soaking help..

Hi, I'm new around here. Anyway, I'm thining about getting a pair of PBJ-004s. The last pair of dry denims I wore in were flare glenns (nudie). 4 years no wash (I'm quite happy never to wash my jeans). My actual waist is like 32, (my glenns are 31s but have stretched out to like 35"). this is my first time with japanese denim.

So, I need help choosing what size to get in the PBJs. also, since I tend not to wash my jeans, should I soak em? or are there benefits to soaking besides shrinkage (like do they formfit better if they have had a soak?)?

any help is greatly appreciated

Any unsanforized raw denim should be soaked first unless you plan to literally NEVER wash them or wear them in the rain because otherwise they'll shrink and your fades will end up in weird places. For sizing, I find the japanese websites having like 209804753 different measurements in CM to be very helpful.

In the future you may want to do a search and post a question like this in a thread that already exists...

just measure yourself at the height where you want the waistband to be when you wear the jeans, probably slightly below the pelvis for these, and take off 2" from that measurement. I take off 2 because they stretch out about that amount, so I won't need a belt later on. You could also go -3 if you're thin and want a super tight fit but I wouldn't do it myself.

Okay, sorry to bore everyone with an update, but I've decided to go raw unwashed and to give the jeans a soak.

I'm trying to decide between a size 30 and 31. Don't want em too loose, don't want them to be tight either. But I guess what I am wondering is, If I plan on soaking them am I overthinking it? Is it possible that with the variation in shrinkage and consequent restretching a 31 and a 30 could end up being the same fit? I'm overthining this aren't I?

Check with us when you narrow your choices - but in general raw jeans will STRETCH to fit your body just right so sizing down is good as long as you're under a 33-34" waist ( non stocky frame )

Also SOME jean makers when they give the measurements - they are giving that measure for POST soak . so your 30" jeans would be 32" before the soak . get your true size in raw unwashed jeans ( not applicable to one wash )

They way you do your jeans though I seriously recommend something heavyweight like 19 or 21oz man ..

ha, yeah it was a toss up between the PBJ 004s and the samurai bootcuts. I think it is just too hot for the 19 or 21 oz here in sydney. Besides, My glenns were a 14.5 oz and they felt really good. If I move next year though I will totally get a pair, I'd love to give those a good wear.

So, I know its a tough question to answer but would you then be recommending the 30" ? I had already factored in post shrink size. my waist is 30, hips (where I wear my jeans) are a 33 and my thighs are a skinny 20. I hear that PBJ cuts are more fitted than the nudie cuts (and my glenns were a 31 sanforized). I was just worried that a 30 might be a little too tight, but I guess it might stretch all around to the perfect fit.

I apprecite any and all guidance in this sacred of matters. cheers
