supreme selling out?

i was scanning through some of the chatter in the warehouse sale thread and came across some talk of supreme effectively "selling out" - jebbia selling the company and the company going the way of zoo york.

i'm a fan of supreme and think a great deal of their ish is quality and of course it holds that "exclusive" quality because it's so damn hard to come by. needless to say, talk of supreme selling out disturbs me.

DISCLAIMER!: i don't want to start rumors so take all of this with a grain of salt. just want to get all the "info" people may have.

Well, not sure about whether the company is being sold (although I heard rumors as well) but they had a production director position open last year, and one of the main criteria was experience with Chinese manufacturers. Read between the lines.

they've had various items made in china for years, and even if they're having more stuff made, all that one would be led to infer is that they're trying to cut costs (and maybe expand). not saying they aren't selling out, just saying that the posting you mention doesn't mean much imo.

Well, the ad had keywords that lead me and others to believe that they want someone with the keys to large scale production facilities in China (it's been a while now), which led me to believe that major expansion is in the works. Don't know if that constitutes "selling out", but suggested to me that they want to amp up their volume. Of course, it's all conjecture at this point.

ah gotcha, yeah that makes sense, and i definitely do think that they at least want to 'grow day by day' as Jebbia said in a recent interview, which is the track they've been on to date...opening the LA store, the Harajuku store, probably selling more stuff to more people as the brand's gotten/getting bigger.... we'll see if there's a step change

Who cares. So Supreme goes the way of any one of countless other skate / t-shirt / clothing companies that used to put out cool stuff but now put out generic, low quality crap designed to shift as many units as possible. Something else good will come along and you'll be able to talk about how you "won't wear Supreme any more because..." or how you "liked Supreme back when ..."
