Have any of you guys achieve the same type of bunching of the hem using normal stitching( vs chain stitch)? If you have, could be please post the results.

I live in Australia, where there is no chain stich available. I am reluctant to hem my jeans for i have have bad results from single needle hemming.

Is this what you're talking about?

Yes that is what I am talking about. However the results on your jeans do not look very nice. The hem looks kind of flat, just like in my jeans. I was trying to find results that look the same as a hem done in Chainstitch.

Someone told me that if you have a very narrow hem(eg: 2mm vs 5-7mm) done in single stitch, that there is more chance of obtaining the "roping effect".

You'll still get the roping effect with a simple lockstitch but the chainstitch will probably give more of a pronounced effect. This kinda contradicts my take on the matter which is that the roping is caused more by the shrinkage of the denim than the type of stich used to stich it, if that were 100% true then a chainstitch with it's increased flexibility would in fact give inferior roping effects to a lockstitch but clearly that's not the case! Oh and you should if at all possible get your chainstitch for purely aesthetic reasons - it looks so cool. Especially done with two different coloured threads as 45rpm do on request :D
