DIESEL

i'd say diesel is ridiculously mainstream now, however that isn't any reason not to buy it. you are right, they do have some kickass denim, so i wouldn't let the fact that they're mainstream keep you from getting a nice pair of jeans.

Overall, I think Diesel has gone downhill over the last two years when the company started adding new features to their jeans for the worse (in my opinion) (i.e., weird pockets, designs on the back pocket, etc.) What used to make diesel somewhat interesting was the simplicity of their jeans and their washes. That said, I recently checked out some limited edition cuts and washes at the Diesel Denim Gallery in Soho, where they had some fairly unique stuff and kinda mirrored their old designs from a few years ago.

Anyway, in the grand scheme of things, I guess diesels "are still cool" but this will vary in the eyes of different people. To others Seven for all Mankind or Paper Denim Cloth are cool. And to some these brands will seem played out and generic. To some it's about Japanese selvedge. Who knows. I'll stop monologing now. If you like their denim, then pick them up.

(I was about to start a similar thread, glad I don't have to now.)

So is Diesel wack?

How about the rest of the S/S line? On some previous collections I haven't been feelin' that whole "expensive lumberjack theme" they've had going on. Or is it rock star, I don't know. But I kinda like some of the stuff in this season's selection. (Still a bit pricey for stuff that's made in countries like Vietnam, Thailand etc. Well most of it is anyway.) The denim is sometimes great, sometimes not. Usually I've been able to find the best fits from them, but some of the prints and washes just scream "I wanna be different!" and are not for me.

What're your thoughs on Diesel's "sister label", 55DSL? Lots of rainbow colors there, at least.

WHY DON'T YOU DECIDE FOR YOURSELF?! What the fuck. Cool is in the eye of beholder, so make up your own damn mind- are you an idiot?

If you have problems making your own decisions and need people to tell you everything though:

Diesel is always "cool" cause they are OG and sponsor tons of great events/festivals/(websites), not to mention having great cuts and amazing ad campaigns.

Fuckers.

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666" (Rev. 13:16-18).

Haha, this is something that i've been thinking about for a while. I think its true that they fell off a few years back when they decided to start getting rid of their old cuts/washes and replacing them with completely ridiculous and unflattering cuts and styles! What did happen to the basics? Kratt, Tiiner, X-rotuck? and in decent washes that you don't need 5000 pairs of shoes to match with? (Not that having so many shoes would be a bad thing hehe)

Having said that, some of their stuff is still 0k, BUT the quality, in my opinion, is definately not what it used to be! Ever since they started shifting manufacture out of Italy, especially on some denim lines, they've fallen off their game - AND prices have escalated...whats the deal? In australia, prices have jumped over the past year or so from maximum AUD$440 to a new height (i just noticed the other day) AUD$560? And whats the bet manufacturing is getting cheaper for them!?!?!

What they need is a shift back in time, where Kratt is the basic 5-pocket and the X-rotuck 796 is the weirdest style available. Maybe that would knock off most of the dick riders?

I can't really talk though....for reasons unknown to me I own a pair of Dardy 81L's, possibly the worst cut of jeans ever, but they are soft enough to wear around the house hehe

Try it, you'll like it!
