Digital SLRs?

Assuming one could get a 20D with 18-55 or D70s with 18-70 at the same price.

Which would you go for and why?

Areas of interest would be night photography, abstracts, landscapes and a bit of portraits.

Reasons for limiting my choices to these two models is budget. Have tried the D40/x, 350D, 400D etc but i very much prefer the feel of the models i have mentioned above.

I'm thiiiiinking of picking up the Ricoh GR Digital.

I know 76 has this and swears by it, but does anyone else have any experience with it?

some links about it:

I don't think I really NEED all that a full-fledged dSLR could offer me, I simply don't know that much about photography, but I DO enjoy it, messing around, doing my own thing.

So, would this be right for me in SuFu's opinion?

What about this puppy. Nikon finally makes a full frame digital camera.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/Nikon/d3front.jpg

This camera is so beautiful! I won't buy another camera until I have the resources to fund this $5k monster. I couldn't sleep a wink during the week leading up to these new camera releases and the D3 looks like a dream come true (aside from the fact that I can't afford it).

I have a D50 right now and there's really nothing in the D300 that would make me want to exchange any time soon. The only way I'd buy another 1.5x "crop" camera with liveview is if it also had a swiveling LCD screen, now that would be worth the 2k.

i was looking at it for an everyday camera and i got to try it out for a day, but the sensor is way to small for the megapixels and its super noisey as well as if you shoot raw its super slow to process. Ricoh even put out a book with so pro photogs using it and for the most part the pictures looked like shit bc of the noise. Some people say it looks like grain but they're saying that bc they're tryign to make themselves feel ok about buying such an expensive camera with such a noise problem.

Are Nikon D40's any good, or is just spending the extra cash to get a D80?

Go to a store and try them out first.

I didn't like the way the D40 felt in my hand (too small).

And you might want to note that you need AF-S lenses to be able to AF with the D40. Not to say that you can't use AF-D, DX mounts etc. just that you have to manually focus them and that can be a bitch sometimes.
