it can be done. its just a matter of finding the correct tailor to do it.

I know that a few people here have had bad experiences wtih trying to get the same thing done. so good luck.

just make sure that explain your self in depth. bring a diagram if you have to. stand over his/her shoulder if you have to.

hey, I have a pair of the 47 501s I just got in a size 34x34. I hot soaked them for about 2.5 hours and then let them dry.

The waist is cool and the length could be a little shorter. I plan on getting them hemmed about an inch (could go more, but I figure there will be some more shrinkage) and i was thinking about getting them tapered from about the mid-thigh down to the leg opening.

is there a way to taper from the inseam from as far up as mid-thigh so as to not destroy the selvage? should I just get a different pair cut of LVC?

thanks

It takes about 10 washes/soaks for LVCs to fully shrink. Usually with'n about 4 their almost there but for FULL shrinkage it takes 10 or so soak & drys.

you can taper from the inseam and it should be cool. I've never had a pair of wider-leg jeans like Levi's tapered so it's harder to say, but if you tapered from the outseam you'd definitely have Zubaz-cut pants or mom jeans. It's hard for a tailor to line exactly and start from the middle of a seam and make it look like a perfect continuation in both stich and line; expect that they will have to tear away the whole inseam and re-shape the inseam curve from the crotch down and re-fell the seam to get a good fluid taper without a broken stitch line.
