Grand

I saw pics of some new store opened in Switzerland on the Beinghunted website. It looks really cool, but as I don't live anywhere near the place, I'm disappointed that theres no online shopping on their website.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could identify any of the clothes/labels from the photos of the inside of the store:

Sorry for bringing this old thread back up.

In regards to this shop it's real cool and the staff is most certainly knowledgable that's always a pleasure!

I actually am asking for any suggestions about cool shops in Zurich to check out?

I've seen the stuff on the street where Grand is located and there's ok stuff but I guess I'm not digging enough.

I go to Zurich about once a month since I've been in France in january but I haven't really explored much at all.

I'm most particurlaly searching for some shoes ... dare I say .... some nicer more exclusive Nike's

Hope someone can give me some pointers :)

There's not a great deal in Zurich as there isn't a big market for "streetwear". The city is very old money and traditional in its spending habits.

Having said that, check out Krone (by the car park behind Jelmoli; www.kroene.ch) and The Gloss (take the Number 4 tram to Escher-Wyss-Platz; www.thegloss.ch). The Gloss is especially good and was built out of the remnants of skim.com when that went under.

As far as I'm aware (I was last there in January), Zurich does not have any official SB stockists. There were a few shops that had SBs (Beach Mountain, Jamarico and the Carhartt shop), but that tended to be the less obvious stuff/leftover stock from other places (Anguses, FCs and URLs).

Hope that helps. I will be back in Zurich in July, so I'm glad to see the quality of stock in The Grand.

as far as i heard from talking to my boys in the UK, the grand is the only store in zurich to stock all the latest quickstrikes and hyperstrikes. the shoe selection isnt very big right now, but at least you get to check the latest styles there. They said Visvim should be arriving there soon also.

Thanks for the hepful reply.

Unfortunately yes I'd have to agree Zurich doesn't seem all that up and up. But it's odd considering the amount of young people and the fact it seems a bit dynamic. To me at least.

Then again I've barely gone about the city when I've been there. I'm really not that aware of how things are.

Now in regards to Krone Kroene? Which one is it? Website adress not working.

If it's by the car park behind Jelmoli I'll take a look around.

Thanks again

It's not surprising the Kroene link didn't work. as that's not even the name of the shop. Whoops.

The shop is actually called Koenix (www.koenix.ch). There's more info about it on the Alprausch site (www.alprausch.ch - click on Where To Find > Koenix).

As for the lack of shops of this calibre, it isn't so surprising when you consider that most people earn their money by very traditional means (banking/finance, insurance etc.) and so have traditional tastes. The creative industry that would usually feed into and buy from these stores isn't really there in any great depth.

Having said that, most of the scene in London is owned by former stock brockers/investment bankers, so that's not necessarily a prohibitive factor. I think it's more a case of the Swiss not really understanding the mentality of paying a great deal of money for a very relaxed style of casual dress.

Grands online shopping is on grandism.com. There just isn`t all there stuff listed yet. The gloss in hardstrasse is cool. Then in a few days there will also be american apparel opening in josefstr. in zürich. next to the trainsation there is also a shop called dings, which carries some oldschool adidas, paul frank and some others. if you want some more expensive casual stuff you can go to fidelio 1 and 2. I do not recomend koenix anymore. they changed and have hardly any choice these days. a new pump it up sneaker shop opened now 200 meters away from grand and they have a good choice of vans, adidas, etc.

overall it`s true, zürich still needs to evolve a bit in terms of street wear, but when you walk around josefstr. and langstr. you can find quite some stuff.

I've just remembered somewhere else in ZH. I don't know if it's still open/stocks the same quality of product but there was a shop called VMC, next to the Oliver Twist pub just off of Niederdorfstr. I've not been there in a couple of years, but I do remember it being very good during the late 90s/early 00s. The only place I'd seen in Zurich with the Millenium Evisu and Clapton Classics Red Wings, for example. Might be worth a look. I'm going to pop in there when I'm in Zurich next weekend.

VMC is here: http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=47.3725&lon=8.5451&scale=5000&icon=x

Well, I was right - VMC does have an amazing selection. Denim-wise, it has Sugar Cane, Full Count, Edwin, Atelier LaDurance, LVC, Levi's Red and Evisu. Lots of Red Wings, Belstaff, CP Company, Stone Island, Fred Perry, Aigle, Clarks Originals and plenty more. Just about every classic item you could ever think of.

The Grand is a fantastic store. Michael is a top-notch guy - really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. These two shops are going to take a lot of my money this summer.

The Gloss seems to have fallen off. I went to go check it out again after receiving a mailout from them saying they had Edwin in amongst their sale stock. When I arrived, I was told that none of their jeans where on sale. So I left. I may go back if I hear that they've got new +41 gear in, or they dig up a load of old skim.com stock.

Does anyone know of any stores in Zurich stocking the Fred Perry Commes Des Garcons polos?

The only store I know that stocks Fred Perry is the upper class department store Grieder, but I do not think that they actually have the Fred Perry Comme des garcons polos.

Grand has all sorts of cool brands such as DPMHI, Futura Lab., Anything, Goodenough, Zoltar, Invisible Man, Recon, Married to the Mob, etc. Just check Grandism.com for the exact brands.

Other than that, there really isn`t much. For sneakers there are 2 Pump it Up stores, which carry an alright selection, but not the rare ones. For more rare sneakers, again Grand is not bad.
