I could be wrong but I think its has to do with the white tab on the left pocket as opposed to the red tab that is usually on the right, for the japanese models, which Levis doesnt hold a patent on in japan, I think.

That is exactly what I am thinking. It seems like export model is synonomous with "compy with trade mark model." It is very similar with Denime, and Sugarcane seems to be doing this too now. As dry denim is starting to move to other places than Japan, I think we may see this more and more.

probably because they weren't doing export models until recently. you'll probably start seeing them. makes me happy i have some red tabs on my sams and denimes.
