Selvedge Selvage Dry Raw? whats the difference?

Right this may be a stupid question but what is the difference between raw, dry, selvage dry etc etc. and how does it affect the way in which the denim 'ages.' i.e. is it better buying selvage than just dry. 'Dry selvage' seems to be more expensive than just 'dry'

I'm wanting to buy a pair and 'age' them but I don't want to waste time and cash on the wrong material.

A confused denim buyer .....

Raw and Dry are both terms commonly used for unwashed denim.

Selvage or Selvedge is a common term for narrow shuttle loom denim. (Do a word search and you'll find a fuller discussion or two). It's more expensive because the fabric is half the width of regular denim, therefore you consume twice the yardage if you use selvage.

There's not really a 'better'. However, you won't go far wrong with dry selvage jeans.
