Did a search of the forum but couldn't find anything specific so I'm asking here.. I'm ordering something worth $270 USD from Germany and having it shipped to New Jersey, do you think I'll have to pay any customs charges? Anybody here have to pay any US customs when ordering from Europe?

uhhm I've had to pay before. I ordered from oki-ni( UK ) and a month after I received my order I got a bill for a tarrif( $80 ) because my package was held back by US customs or something. I got in contact with the extremely helpful service department at US customs and tried to resolve the matter.... needless to say I never got back one cent from this bullshit scam.

anyways, I hope this doesn't happen to you. I still order shit from overseas all the time and has never happened to me since.

It all depends on the value the store will put on the package. If they put $270, you will be responsible for 10% customs duty. It also depends on how they ship it. If it's FedEx, they will bill you after you get your package.

Naw. That's never happened to me. At least not in California. I've had thousands of dollars of foreign goods mailed to my California address, usually with full declaration (including a pair of $1200 headphones marked as such), and I have never paid a dime in duty fees.

Now, living in Canada, on the other hand... they'll charge you duty absolutely whenever they can... and even sometimes when they can't.

Did you get it all through USPS?

USPS, Airborne Express, UPS, Fedex, DHL... no fees, ever.

Recently, Fedex called me (re: Dior jeans from Luisaviaroma) because the package was marked at over $200, but they did not say I would have to pay fees, there would just be addditional paperwork required. (In the end, they skipped it since I "convinced" them that they intended to put $180 ... not 180 euro. Haha.)

Hmmm, really strange. I wonder if that's why you moved to Canada (picks up the phone to call FCC ;-)).
