Question about Samurai 5000vx and Blue in Green...

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about heading to Blue in Green to pick up some Samurai 5000vx, but before I make the 6 hour trip I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into so I don't leave empty handed.

What is the sizing of the 5000vx like?

Is it low rise, with a slim (ish) leg? That's what I want. It's hard to tell from the website's measurements.

Could someone that owns a pair help me out?

How hot is the 17 oz. denim in the summer humidity/heat? Bearable, or brutal?

Also, does BIG carry a comparable denim with a low/medium rise with a slim leg?

Do they have the 0500?

Sorry if this has been answered, I did a search and didn't get any good results.

Look at that page for some examples of how the 3000VX fit.

I just got an email from Toshiko of Samurai asking me to confirm my order of S5000BK jeans because they will starting making them. No more turning back (I don't I would).

She told me that they will be making 400 pairs. I wonder how many of those will be available in stores?

Also, in every email of Samurai is the store info of Blue In Green. I guess they are the official retailer outside Japan?

the black Samurais.......

are these the traditional repro fit?

i.e. not tight and not low rise

wouldnt mind a pair, but certainly not if they are gonna be slim or lowrise.

Just out of interest, why are Samurai constantly producing "limited editions" (yawns with boredom at another company producing 'L.E.s')

If the black jeans were popular enough to sell out first time, and then get re-issued by Samurai, maybe Samurai should take that as a hint for a stable, continual production, however small or large scale.

I fucking despise all these companies who keep making 'limited releases' of every product they make.

sizing of the 5000vx: I soaked these in the hottest my water would get for a good hour to hour and a half (is this long enough to get full shrinkage? Because if it isn't, I may do it again...I might even put them in the dryer for a bit). I bought a 30 waist. I didn't measure them afterward but I had no problem buttoning them up aside from getting the buttons through the ridiculously stiff denim. I have a 32 measured waist. So at the minimum these may have been 31, because they weren't squeezing me at all.

Fit: I'll post pics in a couple hours. My girl's asleep behind me and I don't have a full length mirror outside of my room.... Ahh fuck it I'll bring the mirror outside after my post. These are larger than I expected though. I would still consider them a medium/slightly slim jean though. I was expecting something tight through the thighs. I was wrong. I'm very happy to have these jeans, though, regardless. The rise is medium low. There's still plenty of room in the crotchial region. The denim is outstanding, my jeans actually stood up on their own, and they'll allow me to mix my look up a bit, rather than my very tight size 28 new standards.

Oh, and about the heat...yea, they're fucking warm. Since they're looser than my APCs they're not as hot initially, but after a few minutes of being in 95 degree Tennessee weather, the air in the jeans heats up and I start panting.

I'll post pics in a few minutes

The S5000BK is like on the slim side of regular. Not really slim. Mid-rise IMO.

These black jeans have not been produced before, the other black pair they had was a different cut and denim. They don't reissue the LE's.

Personally I like their LE's. They are like their regular models with a twist, more unique/different denim or details etc.

i measured while still wearing them, but i got 10 1/2 inches for ya (in front), assuming you measure from that cross seam. Greentea, I sized down from my actual waist size (32); however, I don't have a single pair of jeans in larger than a 30, so it didn't really feel like sizing down to me. These are looser than any of my other 30 waist jeans; however, i don't have any other jeans from japan...at least until wednesday or thursday when my denimes arrive. My new standard size 28s are WAY tighter in the waist and hips than these, even after 4 months of hard wear so far.

From the photos, looks like you got the right size, Jeff. They will shrink a little more in the second and third washes/soaks, so you've got some leeway for that. No need to rush it...

And, yeah, they are too hot in the summer! I've decided I can't wear mine until the autumn rolls around.

Good looking jeans on you man, wear them with pride!
