hotspots in asia

Don't know if you're going to Thailand, but Railay Bay near Krabi is awesome. You can dive and rock climb and the beach is AMAZING! Shopping at Siam square in Bangkok is cutting edge and trendy.

I could give you a list a mile long about Seoul shopping since I live there, but you can also check out the website I run. I recently compiled the best and biggest bar section ever made in English.

It's been a while since I toured the rest of Asia, so I can't really offer any more updated advice about any other country. Have a great time on your tour!

For shopping in Thailand, you definitely want to check out Siam Square, a collection of small boutiques over three small streets. Here you'll find a lot of independent stores owned by Thai designers, imported jeans and t-shirts (i.e., Ever shirts, True Religion), ecclectic eateries (i.e., Used to be a Closet, I-Berry, RotiBoy). On the back side of Siam Square is CentrePoint, where young students from Chulalongkorn University and high school students hang out. MTV Thailand also typically conducts interviews and broadcasts from this area.

On the other side of the street, you'll find the new Siam Paragon mall, a monstrosity of luxury stores and restaurants. If you're looking for Hermes, Gucci, Bottega, it's all there. Their watch gallery is amazing with Audemars Piguet, IWC, JLC, Patek boutiques. The food court on the bottom floor is definitely worth checking out: go to Kabuki or Aoi for excellent Japanese, Amici for Italian, and if you go to Manna for Thai food, definitely sit outside by the water.

Siam Paragon is connected to the Siam Center, which is connected to Siam Discovery. Each of these malls are constantly packed with people but most of the stores are older and same as anywhere in the world (i.e., Diesel, Lacoste).

Up on Sukhumvit 55 (THong Lor), around Soi 18 is the Playground concept store. While I don't expect this place to be open much longer (high unprofitable store in an extremely expensive area), it's worth going to. This large space houses several excellent restaurants (Kuppa is excellent; Vanilla is so so; Sonie is good too) and concept boutiques inside, which sell APC, Yanuk denim, X-Large, Jean Paul Gaultier umbrellas, Mandarina Duck luggage and bags). The nice thing about Playground is that it also consolidates a lot of Thai designer clothes i.e., Medium Rare, etc.

Of course there are also the usually shopping spots such as the Chatuchak Weekend Market at Lad Prao and the Suan Lum Night Bazaar around Lang Suan. Patpong, the red light district on Silom, also carries the myriad of fake Rolexes and Cartier watches, bootleg DVDs and CDs, and various shoes and clothes.

Anyway, that is a short list of shopping districts in BKK. If you're interested in more info let me know. I didn't talk about the MBK center in Siam or the Emporium around Phrom Pong or Gaysorn Plaza/ Erawan in ChitLom.

Word, this man knows his Bangkok. I am a Pattaya conoisseur myself. The following is from a post I made before; I can provide indefinite detail if you do actually plan on going there, drop me a line:

I have spent ALOT of time (several months) living in Thailand and I personally hate Bangkok; it is probably the worst big city in the world. Taking that into consideration I would recommend hopping in a private limo van and taking the $40 trip down to Pattaya. Pattaya Beach is great; tons of shopping (lots of fake shit but also a very nice mall) bars, and restaurants. Walking Street is an amazing place for nightlife and is much better than Patpong in Bangkok. Pattaya is the fastest growing / hottest place to buy housing in Thailand right now. From there, take the 3 day tour/trip to the River Kwai. You stay on the river in floating house boats; it is fucking beautiful and extremely fun........

Skip Phuket

Either way, Thailand is the place to be, BY FAR.

i'm touring asia in a month can somebody give me a list of good spots in asia, its my first time to do this.ibeaches, resorts, malls, shopping districts are on my itinerary.

Singapore and Malay....kind of miss singapore now that I thought about it..so easy to get around...electronics...Malaysia, I spent like 4 days total there..so I'm not an expert. Penang is cool for buildings and shit

tons of stuff for Japan on here. use the search...food is amazing there.

Thailand- Beaches and BKK night life....I was once too in the same mindset of England...but it's an unbelieveable city, stay out of ko san area and you'll enjoy yourself a lot more, i promise you ....Its def the most up and coming of the third world asian countries..more sophistocated than Saigon and such.

Cambodia. Visit cambodia and you'll never tour a temple again. I saw enough temples to rest my entire life. But Siam Reap is really fucking cool as far as shit goes. Pretty decent nightlife...ended up hanging out with the guys at our hotel and went to some ridiculous club at like 3 in the morning.all round good time was had. also sang karaoke in the middle of woods....Phnom Penh is also pretty cool. dont remember it much though

Vietnam- Saigon is amazing, not quite there yet, but getting there. Hanoi is fairly boring imo. Saigon is where it's at. Like a baby BKK. if you want more info, let me know. I spent some time in Saigon and can point you in the right direction...

I hear HK is amazing. next trip

I just got back from HK. Didn't have that great of a time, but I probably didn't know the best places to go. Stayed in Kowloon around Tsim Sha Tsui and ate a lot of congee, duck, noodles, dumplings at these random hole-in-the-wall places. Didn't do much shopping, since all I saw where the usual stores you see anywhere in the world. I did see the Bape store on the HK Island side but didn't get a chance to drop in. Causeway Bay is supposed to have a lot of cool stores, but didn't have much time to stop by. TIP: Don't go to Wan Chai. Nothing but ghetto Filipino girls and signs welcoming the US Navy. Nasty.

HK is an excellent place to buy watches as there are tons and tons of watch dealers on every street. Basically you can find any watch out there: lots of complications, minute repeaters, perpetual calendars. Saw the "Green" Rolex Submariner and a Patek Aquanaut. Drool.

The highlight of this trip to HK was actually going to Macau, about an hour by ferry to the former Portuguese colony. The island is known as a casino and gambling town and still has a interesting, edginess to the whole place. Lots of fat, Chinese Triad gangsters with beautiful girls hoarding a ton of chips at the Sic Bo and Baccarat tables. Definitely stay at the Hotel Lisboa and go gamble at the Sands. Lots of cute girls in Macau, probably working but whatever......

I think people sleep on Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Has a bit of everything, great food and a fun nightlife. Health centers are everywhere when you need that late night sex crave and clubs are not too spread out over the city.

Watch out for taxis too! Those guys will always try to rip you off or offer some sort of sexual service for their commission.

LOL, I've lived in M'sia for a while and this is the first time I have ever heard anyone propping the country for its prostitution.

I know I have, as well as a few other people, have written KL advice/reviews etc.; do a search if you are interested. In fact, do a search on any city you are interested in, then come back and ask if you want more info.

Why avoid Wan Chai?? Im goin there next month.

If your carrier group just arrived at port, then check it out. You might have a good time. It might even be kinda "exotic..."

Otherwise, it's ghetto. But, to his their own...
