Can someone please explain...

... Why left hand twill is more comfortable to wear than right hand?

Having been reading about the various properties of left hand twill for some time on here, I had seen various threads saying how comfortable left is to wear.

I have to admit I quietly thought to myself: "what a load of pretentious bullshit. If you were to 'blind test' I bet they would feel exactly the same."

Then...

I got some raw Wrangler repros. I put them on and I genuinely had to lift up the leg to see if they were lined (like suit trousers) because I couldnt believe how comfortable the denim is in comparison to my other jeans. They are as close to wearing marl tracksuit bottoms as denim is gonna get. And guess what? They are left hand twill.

So what the hell makes 'left' much more comfortable than 'right'?

(and therefore why arent all jeans made 'left'? )

Er, 180 degrees will still give you r/h twill!

I have a long explanation somewhere, but essentially, r/h twill has traditionally been the convention because the weave 'closes' the twist of the yarn, making it tighter, some people say this is harder wearing. l/h tends to open it and make the denim feel softer. l/h has become popular in women's jeans for that reason - so has broken twill for much the same reason. But as ringring points out, this would only make a difference all other things being equal.

There was a practical reason that Wrangler pioneered broken twill - cowboys liked to press their jeans, and leg twist would have been disastrous! But it seems most likely that Lee went for l/h twill just because it was different to Levi's.

look down at your jeans.

From the 'top' the direction of the 'stripes' runs either from left to right (right hand twill) or vice versa.

I think this is correct? This is how I identied the aforementioned Wranglers.
