can anyone suggest a waterproof backpack?

as a little experiment in conservation i'm taking my car off the road and cycling everywhere this summer. only problem is, i live on long island and everything is so far apart in distance. so to keep things dry i'm getting a goretex raincoat. however, i was thinking if i want to bring clothes or supplies with me anywhere im gunna want a waterproof pack. i looked on the arcteryx website but didnt see any that were explicitly waterproof. any help would be appreciated.

sealline makes some roll-down dry bags with backpack style straps. i use their (now-discontinued) guide pack for hiking in and out of my favorite surf spots with wetsuit, gear, etc., but it's probably way too big for your application.

also check out ortlieb, although their stuff is kinda overpriced and i think the only backpack style bag they make is a big messenger bag.

many of north face's backpacks come with a rain cover. so you can pick one that is suitable for riding and just put the cover on it.

Check Chrome Bags out of San Fransico. They make courier bags and you can customize you color scheme. It's a bold bag, and they are very comfortable on your back.

I second that North Face suggestion. I have a windbreaker by them and it's all good stuff. Their backpacks are similarly well made.

Get something with a decent rubber coated zipper and spray the fucker with 10 layers of Camp Dry.....it will be VERY waterproof.

the belt buckles on the messenger bags make them very convenient to use. they're durable and comfortable for riding around the city, already waterproof, have tons of pockets/pouches, can balance large loads, etc.

Another plus for Chrome is that they also make a backpack style pack (if you don't like messenger-type bags).
