Denim for the larger guy...

Recommended Posts

I've seen warehouse in 42 that were XX denim and measured 40.5 after soak ..

I have a pair of Ace jeans Kaihara selvage 15oz denim if anyone needs a size 40 + ..

They measure like 41" - way too big for me

They aren't raw - they are EXTREMELY soft

I got a pair of Warehouse 1001XX marked 42 off eBay ($90 shipped :)), think they were old stock though not sure if they still make them that big. Gave them a hot wash to shrink them a little bit more and they are about 39.5" waist now. Same seller has Sugar Canes in 38" waist (preshrunk, actually measure a hair under 38" I think).

I also got a pair of Calvin Klein black selvage jeans in a 40, although I haven't seen them anywhere except eBay, they wear pretty quickly for some reason.

Exactly like those but bronze pocket stitching instead of silver and no rear label on the waist at all . All rivets have an ace like the ace of spades symbol on them and the denim is VERY streaky and fairly slubby also .

I'll get pics of the actual ones I have if you are really interested .

top notch heavy denim though - made by kaihara

I'm a 42 waist myself, and I have the same problem. The brand I would recommend you look into is Oni. I'm wearing a pair of Oni Red's right now in a 36 waist (39 prewash), and they fit fine. If you can find a pair of 38's, the waist should measure 41 inches pre-wash. I got them from:

Very helpful people, and if you need them hemmed it's a free service.

40 in. Samurais, eh? I'd like to see that...

Samurai has multiple models in size 40, one of the only companies that does that. If you dont believe me just check their website.

  • 2 weeks later...

i wear a 38 and just pick up a 36 usually. with rescues i picked up a 35 and they've stretched way too much, like 22" x 2. i just bought Nudie SSDS off of FOS5 and they were snug at first, but after half a day's wear, i can already feel them stretching some. especially the thighs.

i gotta check out selfedge if they have bigger guy sizes. it gives me a reason to leave good ol' SD for the bay.

Self Edge's jeans cap at size 36 or 38 for most brands. Only Iron Hearts go up to a size 40.

I got a pretty impressive gut myself. I was pretty depressed that I couldn't fit into a lot of stuff I like. I too was wearing ugly ass sean john jeans, till I discovered RRL! Since they have such wacky sizing, I bought some 40's that ended up being like a 43. They have a great selection and a great variety of cuts. Also, the price range is pretty diverse too. I also have a dry selvedge Baggy Bjorn, size 40, thats actually a 41. My Fullcount 1108 is a size 40 but stretched an extra inch. I believe Denime makes a 40. Sometimes even a 42. They probably have the largest selection of fits for Japanese denim. Sugarcane also makes up to a 40, plus, they are sized up with their STF models. I was at a couple of Evisu stores in Osaka, a few years back, and they even carried up to a 46 for some models.

So fear not, there are choices for men who live large.

Funny thing is they're a Rescue tag size 35. HA! Well, it was a quick measurement. I will soak them when I get New Standards next week.

APC is no joke when it comes to stretching!

Could you get a true waist measurement before you soak them please? Id like to know if i can fit in a size 36 or 35 rescue, thanks.

If you're a 40-41.. I'm sure you can. I'm a true 38. I initially purchased a 36 Rescue and they were baggy. I purchased the 35, they were perfect... for the first month. They are now baggy on me and require a belt or I'll look like Lil Weezy. I will be sure to take a true waist measurement before I soak for you.
