Hows everybody doing? I just registered today. I've been viewing the boards as a lurker for around four or five months now. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge on denim, fashion and everything else discussed here. I'm a member on Niketalk (SortaNew2Retro) and SoundCircuit (Logikal Accord) if any body on here posts here (So far I've seen kixslf and TwelveAM from Niketalk).

I've been wearing a pair of raw denim Lucky's that I bought over six months ago at a Nordstrom for $110. I didn't really know how to treat them when I first bought them and washed them after maybe a month using detergent, fabric softener, vinegar and hang drying them. Needless to say I was a little dissapointed after they dried and I saw what I had done to them. Since then, months later, I still like the fit and comfort of them, wore them nearly every day and rinsed them in cold water for about 15 minutes, but was a little dissapointed in the fading, honeycombing, etc.

Since reading on here and gaining more knowledge, I picked up a pair of Levis 501 STF's today. Very contradictive statement I just wrote and I know that not every body is a fan of the jeans. For the price and from other people's pictures I've seen, I liked them. I bought them two sizes bigger in the waste and inseam length.

So far I soaked them in a big cooler for three hours in cold water to shrink them. This is how they look right now. They are hanging up to dry, inside out.

After they dry, I'm going to spray them with starch. Question 1: Do I spray the starch on the outside of the jeans or the inside? I plan on spraying the back of the knees and the front of the thighs. Is that a good regimen? Would spraying them once a week be benefitial? Twice a week be better?

I plan on keeping this post up for as long as I have the jeans and want to post up pictures every month or every other month making these my first true jeans project. All help, information, knowledge, welcomes, anything is appreciated and I will take everything in so that I can only become more knowledgable about what I'm doing. Thanks.

Hi welcome to SF, you can starch them whenever you like, after drying is fine, probably want to starch on the outside I find that best, but whatever suits you.

Cheers
