dear posters of supertrash

there's no denying it, this section's been in a really sorry

state. everyone wants to blame this on the recent

rules/changes made by the fun-hating mods of this forum. they

are not to blame, you are. let's look at some of the changes,

shall we?

first there is the much-contended changing of WAYWT: Chat

Edition! to WAYWT: Comments! You brought this upon

yourselves. look at haptronic's chat ban. He says:

if you want to say something to a member but it has no

usefulness or entertainment value to anybody else reading the

message board then do not post it on supertalk.

you can instead:

-give the user a reputation comment

-send the user a private message

-contact the user via im/email/telephone or any other way

outside of superfuture that you have access to because you

know that person

-ignore this message and post useless crap then get banned

for being a waste of space.

it's quite clear from his wording that he's referring to the

exchanges in which entire pages of a thread are consumed by a

back and forth between two members. the template for these

posts generally being

"Hey [first-name drop]!!! Remember [reference to time we

interacted outside of superfuture]!? That was sure [inside

joke]!!"

As hap puts it, these posts are USELESS and have NO

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE TO ANYBODY ELSE. Nobody wants to hear

about how you and your superfriend who lives in the same city

and comes over to your house to play videogames with you were

at some bar/party/social gathering together. This should be

restricted to a CHAT between you two over any other avenue of

communication.

But how did users respond to this ban? By flooding the Chat

Edition! thread with cries of 'HEY GUYS STOP

COMMENTING/RESPONDING/REACTING TO THE PERSON'S OUTFIT, IT'S

NOT LIKE THIS IS THE CHAT THREAD OH WAIT IT IS FUCK YOU

MODS!'Honestly? It is very self-evident that the word 'chat'

in the thread title refers to discussion about outfits

posted, as the thread was originally started to fill the void

created by the PICTURES ONLY ammendment to the original WAYWT

thread. Whatever the reason, most users apparently could not

grasp the difference between the two uses of the word chat

and thus the thread title was changed.

Secondly, there is the issue of the superconfessional thread.

DDML, its creator, says

if you are in superconfessional, confess (thread has

been really shitty for years now because it is nothing but

vapid non-sequiturs---look up CMFs or dismal's early posts in

the thread for the gold-standard)

The thread HAS been awful as of late. What once was an

excellent place for users to confess fears, insecurities,

bizarre adventures, family troubles, or strange sexcapades

has turned into not much more than superlivejournal. You do

not need to CONFESS what you bought your relatives for

christmas, what movie you saw on the weekend, or if you had

sex with a girl you've been in a steady romantic relationship

with. Looking up cheap and dismal's old posts, the reason

seems obvious. When cheep posted about sex the posts could

actually be called confessions, eg, me and my brother double

teamed my ex-wife, i've been with a man before, i had a

marathon sex-session with a girl i was strictly platonic

friends with in high school. Dismal posts similarly about

relationship woes, worries about the future, and the like.

Users clearly misinterpreted the substance of these early

posts and now we have a thread filled with humdrum

recollections of the minutia of relationships and daily life

or some failed seduction at a bar with the occaisional rare

appearance of a post WHICH IS ACTUALLY A CONFESSION.

The other issue with superconfessional is its relationship

with the Random Thoughts thread, shit you hate, and the open

letter thread. Some users for whatever reason seem to

interpret these not as unique threads with their own

purposes, nay, but as a CHALLENGE: How can I post about the

same event in several different formats? Say our hapless

friend poster_x has had a night of heavy drinking which

resulted in embarassing behavior which lead to the alienation

of his romantic interest. We now have:

Superconfessional: I fucked up bad sufu!! Got so drunk I

blacked out and tried to grab my date's tits got slapped then

puked on her lap and did the same thing all over with the

girl sitting next to her!!! Oh man! Oh wow! :(

random thought: I wonder if puke is easy to remove from a

girl's blouse. I fucked up!!

shit you hate: getting too drunk i wish i could undo all

of last night!!

Open letter: Dear my date from last night, I'm SOOOOOO sorry!

I was just too drunk! I don't remember anything but my

friends say I fucked up bad. Please forgive me!

In conclusion, supertrash was once filled with interesting characters and funny/incisive/real posts. Sadly, its gone down the toilet and we can't blame it on big posters being banned or the rules against saying fag/nigga anymore.

What you seem to miss is there's 10x more people on this clapped out mind sucking grey and green behemoth now than there was when cheep went sexaholic. The relatively intimate community feeling that pervaded the board back then disappeared two or even three years ago and changing thread titles isn't going to do anything about it. The vibrancy is there, you just has to sift through a lot of shit, front and mindless posture to see it.
