good vs. bad quality

Well, this could be a good thing. The first jeans are indigo, and on the first soak you should only lose some starch. The second pair are black, which usually don't fade at all. I think that having a black jean that will fade is desirable. So, if you want a black jean that will hige well, they are probably worth a shot.
