found this at the trift store this weekend. "Big Yank" western style jacket, sanforized left hand twill selvege denim.

this is some of the nicest denim ive seen... the color is amazing. id love to find a pair of jeans like this.

I am a fan as well. Just scored a pair of 50s Big Smith "Buckaroo" blue and yellow line selvage jeans. Damn zipper is blown out though. Going to take my old sewing machine and convert them to button fly.

I have a pair of those Big Smith jeans with half selvage, they are cool.

Mine pair actually have full selvage with one side a real faded blue and the other side is yellow. How do think they will look converted to button fly or do you think I should just replace the blown out Gripper Zipper with a modern one from the tailor. I have taken out old zippers on khakis and replaced them with button flys but never with jeans.

Mine are deadstock and have redline selvage (wonder if it's from cone.) I would wear them but I don't realy dont like wearing jeans where the pockets are toward the outseam. If you put in a button fly, you are gonna need some good looking copper thread to restitch the fly. Is there any available?

Yeah, I got some good thread. When you say pockets to the outseam do you mean the back pockets? I kind of noticed the back pockets on mine are really far apart and it does look kind of funky, but they fit really good to so I guess I will deal with it. If mine were darker I would move the pocket too.

speaking of obscure denim, i sure wish i could find some Big John jeans. I had a pair in undergrad that I wore until they fell off.
