In this thread, we have reasonable discussion. Except there are no rules about who gets to post. Convincing me will accomplish nothing but here is your outlet if you've got opinions and don't satisfy some of the "requirements." I know I don't.

The main issue is that no one - absolutely no one - takes advice seriously anymore as a result. When the worst anyone can do is go, "Uh, this isn't that great maybe you should try something else?" no one is going to listen on the internet. Superfuture improved many with it's trial-by-fire process. People wanted to post up good fits since it was hard and you were lauded rather than just post up anything since there's no process for calling shit out anymore.

There's no reason to try hard. Hell, the BEST WAYWT thread has slipped to the third page. That should say something.

also, our waywt thread is no longer any better than that on styleforum for the most part, and that's a painful realization.

i just browsed through the good old shit talking thread and some of the stuff jmatsu said is still hilarious. he could probably write the next great american fashion critique novel if he wanted to.

Exactly. You could go to Styleforum to receive the exact same level of critique that's even allowed anymore.

Superfuture offered a much more severe, effective and higher-level of critique that, while occasionally came off as somewhat 'cruel' to the uninitiated, pushed people to do better than just "fitting in" and promoted creativity and experimentation as well as "personal style" within the realm of what we considered "acceptable" fashion. We used to be the guys who everyone else called "gay" for trying to push the envelope.

Now they've all come here and dragged us down to their level of "dressing well = dark jeans / decent shoes / well fitting t-shirt" without bringing anything with them and there's nothing we can do about it outside of "Neg Rep" which is really no incentive at all.

When I was reading servo's posts I immediately thought "SF."

They do critique there, but its far more mechanical and based in tradition rather than a broader, conceptual and aesthetic criticism of style. They're also very tame there, which can be a positive or negative reflection on their characters.

The fact of the matter is, is that the STT became very cruel. People were crossing the line. Making fun of body types but not offering any help and they weren't making fun of body types in a light way, they were acting like the typical clique of mean girls who pick on a girl because she's fat, or because she has a big nose, and its not all in good fun. It's a nasty victimization. That shit wasn't funny any more.

If we can remember that the STT is about having a laugh and not about "winning" or ripping somebody apart, fine. I remember telling cheap that he was an ugly motherfucker and that he looked like Sandra Bernhard. He laughed and came back at me with some shit and it was fun. He got it. Most of you don't.

I don't even have a problem with that so much but it's not even being done well - Seenmy and Milspex and 78 should be just above streetwear standards. Something to strive for. Instead, the streetwear being posted these days is 100% pure hype. There's no knowledge or creativity being demonstrated in these "streetwear" outfits which are really just the worst sort of dated hypebeasts.

Instead, they're miles beyond the best of what we can currently hope these new members will ever attain because they have no need to better themselves since they aren't being called out.

im really fucking bored so i just spent like the last half hour, at least, reading old posts on the shit talking thread. and its very entertaining, i just read the whole mister black, disillusioned, and meda fiascos, and i thought it was pretty entertaining, that should be reason enough to unlock it. to cure some boredom.
