from an interview:

That sounds like a fascinating process. To sum it up, what will spring 09 look like for Robert Geller?

I can't say too much at this point, but I have been looking east. Not much color...

now that i am looking at this collection on a better monitor, i see the nuance...

in geller's last s/s he elevated "good enough" outfits to another level with those electric yellows, neon pinks and blues

that illumination of otherwise gray outfits separated him from his new york peers that season, i've been hoping to see that sort of contrast return

the vibrance of ss08 made it stand out in my mind as geller's own, the palette this season and f/w08 are too similar to what he did with cloak

not to mention ss08's breakup of layering, which was far more interesting than the "everything and the kitchen sink goes on the torso, in shades of black" mentality ala AD/RO/julius/Damir/etc

speaking of ann d, isn't that where i've seen those sripes and assymetric vests already?

This collection seemed like a move away more from Cloak. I liked alot of his early stuff but alot of the things were almost exactly the same as pieces from cloak and styled the same.

Personally I don't see the connection other than the color palette. To me looking back at Cloak, it definitely seemed a lot more focused on men's tailored pieces, where Robert does a lot more 'casual' clothing (I use that word carefully though).

Geller feels a bit more 'relaxed' to me. Whereas Cloak always had this very sharp element to their looks.

I think it's almost impossible to avoid the comparison to Cloak however, considering Robert's revamp of Cloak when he joined the team (and the aesthetic it's connected to) was all Robert. Pre-Geller Cloak was very very different.
