Shopping in Shanghai

I was browsing through some old threads on Shanghai but I didn't really find any specific information that would help me.

I'm going to be in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guilin in the middle of June and I would like to go shopping with some friends. I already have plans for hotelss, food, acrobatic shows, and all the other touristy stuff (I'm going with a group.)

I probably have a day to shop in Shanghai and Beijing each, if not only Shanghai.

I'm from San Diego and I could just go to LA for Marc Jacobs, but I don't really feel like driving up to Hollywood if I'm already going to Shanghai. Does anybody know anything about MJ in Shanghai on Nanjing Road or the MMJ in the China World Shopping Mall in Beijing? I'm not too concerned about anything else besides this. Being from California, I'm sure I could I could easily find MJ or MMJ in Bloomingdales any day, but I'm hoping the Special Items are available here. I would like a new wallet that I can abuse. I'm using one of them $20 MJ wallets with the removable ID thingy and it's kind of fat. I should've bought a skinner one while I was in Hollywood but I was stupid and didn't.

Also, should I buy anything at Plaza 66 or I.T. or should I wait until I get back home and possibly catch summer sales at South Coast Plaza?

Are fabric stores common on Nanjing Road? I'm sure the Chinese textile industry is pretty big...

Why would you go to Shanghai to buy designer clothes?

Shanghai has some of the worst mark ups ever. Unless you pee money just do yourself a favor and drive up to hollywood.

+1. IIRC Shanghai's markups aren't as bad as Hong Kong, but it's up there.

there is a new mall in beijing that is fucking huge. the gucci flagship store there is bigger than the one in HK, plus there are a ton of other stores.

Well, I just don't have the time to go to LA which was why I was interested in Marc Jacobs in China.

Is there really anything worth buying in Shanghai or should I just forget about it?

wait til the next time you have a chance to go LA, and hit up maxfield. best store in the states.
