Just a random sampling, as I didn't see a discussion thread for this line yet...overall I'm really disappointed, after falling completely in love with their FW 07 collection this is quite the yawnfest. A few nice pieces, but nothing too interesting or imaginative, some is downright ugly (hate the piping). Seems like a step backwards.

That is pretty much the exact sentiment I have heard from people who had seen the collection. After getting pumped up about the line because of the f/w 2007 collection, this was quite a letdown.

I like the narrow lapels on the jackets and.. that's about it.

I like every item that doesn't look like regular rag and bone.

I hate every item that looks like the designers took regular rag and bone on a gay safari.

I actually really used to like this line, probably my third favorite of the mainstream contemporary lines in that price point.

i think everyone's negative comments are nearly wholly unfounded.

its spring/summer, and R&B is trying to branch out beyond the mundanities of

the lower-end and avant-whatever lines that everyone knows and loves by tethering

themselves to a traditional seasonal schedule. in other words, the business is growing, and it makes more sense than ever for them to do something really different for spring/summer, up to and including making a collection that is actually fitting for those two seasons.

i know no one really cares, but the women's looks are spot fucking on. could not possibly be better. that wide lapel women's blazer with piping and the shorts, screams "i'll be your cruise coordinator, my room number is 69, see ya there later".

it is really nice to see them keep up with a powerhouse like prada that just dedicated a shit ton of exits in both mens and womenswear to 70s inspired clothes that will definitely take some getting used to. so will this.

on the men's side, its all pretty blah compared to their usual work, but for a full-bore SS collection that is essentially meant to further establish R&B as a legit company, it works. call it BR if you want [when Dior did safari jackets, was that BR enough for you?], call it LL Bean [i dont see any duck boots or rain coats], club monaco [not even close], etc. etc... its actually really Sears & Roebuck circa wartime, minus the safari gear.

that 50s diner/bowling inspired shirt with piping is a cannonball force of fury. so many reference points... so dope. what kinds of crazy hospitals do they have in canada?

All I know is, if I were a woman / wore shorts, respectively, this would = me in the summer.

The very first two safari outfits threw me off a bit and I'm still not quite sure how they fit in (pre-post edit just noticed omc mentioned that already), but after that it seemed a very reasonable S/S collection. If you're looking for last season R&B, you're going to be dissapointed. If you're looking for a collection of wearable and current clothing, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

i was talking about the fit... short sleeves that flare out... pants cropped so you dont get blood on them... if u liek it sao mcuh juz ware it fool but leave my hospitals ou to fit

rest of the stuff in this collection is alright though. i like the women's side, especially tha dressz

Ugh. Though it does look nice, I can't believe it's rag and bone! I liked last few seasons. This one - there's nothing special.

And just for the shit of it One could recreate prolly all the looks on the runway with cheaper brands / alternatives.

So it's quite disappointing.

while the color range is particularly uninspiring, the references (this is a bit of a conservative term, theyre closer to outright carbon copy than reference) to iconic sillhouettes and styling of a particular decade are remarkable; studious and gentle tailoring characteristic of the 1940s, a rockabilly 50's bowling shirt, 60's flight attendant uniform, 70's leisure suit, early 80's power suit, pastels with the gold watch appear to me a suggestion of the 90's dot-com bubble, so on and so on

theyve elevated and made graceful many past trends that many would consider campy and untouchable... one is only a few clicks away on mens.style.com from runway shows that worship punk, prep and other petite bourgoisie sartorial pursuits

what this collection proposes is nothing less than a tracing of an american material identity by hovering the magnifying glass over the middle class

for that i think they deserve some recognition, however many reservations i have about the white middle class

some of the ladies looks are nice, most of the mens ones are very dull. the safari outfit is pretty bad, some others look like they could be from a j. crew catalog.

the womens look Servo mentioned is nice, and the black jacket + shorts look is ok, but even that one reminds me of a uniqlo or AA windbreaker and a pair of shorts from banana republic.

mellows makes a good point, but when it comes down to it , i think he's reading far too much into this collection

what is the pull factor for me as a consumer to buy any of these pieces? The looks can be replicated with pieces from a myraid of other brands. The brand itself doesnt mean alot to me , or have any special sort of image that i respect and want to associate with.

that being said thats my own personal issue and maybe not a direct reflection on the quality of their designs, but when i see this stuff, i feel so indifferent about it that i'll forget ever seeing this stuff in a week or so

and yes the womens stuff looks much better , esp the striped skirt and hooded jacket. i wish more girls dressed like that , but as i already said about this line, the same look can be achieved elsewhere easily, probably for a cheaper pricepoint

Welcome to the world of fashion. Welcome to the world, in general. Everything is just some reappropriation and commodification or some other shit. I don't really see how this is relevant.

Edit: Also, duh.

im just saying that personally these items dont have anything that would be a "call to action" for me as a consumer. With so much stuff out these days, i have to feel some affinity for the brand, or really like the way they assembled the look they're pushing.

Either there has to be something unique about the execution, quality, or cut, or maybe i just like the brand philosophy/image.. nothing in this collection really strikes me as interesting enough for me to think twice about.

i hope you dont bring up the whole ferrari vs hydunai debate, but theres obviously shades of grey when it comes to re-inventions or re-interpretations of style.. some do it better than others, and imo this wasnt done particularly well

Word, I can appreciate that. If it don't do it for you, it don't do it for you.

It's also about expectations, and when you're talking about fashion, you need to take it for what it is, it's hard to claim that some look can be achieved elsewhere for less, because that is always going to be the case.

I think you're right tho, there are other factors that ultimately determine how a collection or whatever makes you feel.

i agree with others that i don't like this nearly as much as their past couple seasons... i thought they were doing well with their interpretation of classic workwear (such as the railroad jacket, chambray button-up) and americana. I have always thought their women's line was much stronger than their men's, and this season seems no exception on first glance.

One point i'd want to make.. have many of you seen/looked at much of their clothing in person? The experience i have with it is mostly the women's line, but when you see it in a store it just stands out and when you actually pick it up and look at it everything is extremely nice in terms of material/construction... superior to other things of similar price-point that i've seen (well, maybe not the men's jeans). i remember seeing the women's chambray shirt-dress and trench-coat from a couple seasons ago in a store and they just caught my attention right away, before i even knew they were rag and bone, then when i looked at them up close i was really really impressed, and it made me want to get some of their men's clothing, assuming the sizing would fit me (might be cut a little big for me), but now that things from f/w are going on sale on webstore it seems places never have any small's left.

On a side note.. does anyone know what kind of boots they used in their f/w show?

while i understand if you don't like the style (i'm not a big fan of quite a few of their styles), i think most people on here would appreciate the execution/quality/construction if they see the clothes in person... really well made stuff and alot more impressive than i would have expected.
