San Diego in Jan?

so ill be in SD in early Jan for work and other nonsense, what restaurants do you recommend that are fairly inexpensive but are doing there own thing. nice atmosphere and super yummy food.... also what should i look into as for nightlife. im more into the bmore, juke, hiphop, ghettttooo bullshit....and as for stores, what do i need to look into? ive been to 5&aDime before, and ive also been to UNIV. thanks so much!!

...oh and is there anything going on i should check out between jan 8th and the 12th, spots, shows, parties, etc.
