Help me repair my leather shoes!

I just bought a pair of the Y3 X Adidas white leather sneakers. Long story short, they have scratches and dirt all over them now. How do I go about repairing these shoes? The leather isn't shiny, it is very soft and smooth.

This is how they used to look like:

Needless to say, I'm a bit heartbroken. :(

use a leather cleaner to clean off the dirt, then rub with white shoe polish to repair the scratches.

why bother? white shoes don't look good until they've earned character.

Thanks for the tip darknworn. What kind of leather cleaner and shoe polish should I use? Is there anything else I could do besides the common procedure?

you can buy the leather cleaner at a normal athletic shoe store. it usually comes in a spray can. if not, use club soda to clean. you don't have much of a choice in shoe polish, just find the white type. after you've clean your shoes, put some shoe polish on a clean rag and rub in your shoes until the scratches are gone.

If you invest a good amount of money on your shoes you should also invest money on products to take care of them. A company called Tana makes some great leather cleaning stuff and it can be found at most shoe stores or shoe repair shops. The one thing to remember when cleaning a white shoe (or any shoe that uses paint for coloring the leather) is to NEVER use any product with alcohol in it. Alcohol is a great leather/suede cleaner when used *very* lightly but can also strip the dye/paint right off. Another good trick for cleaning light scuffs on leather is to use a mild skin/hand lotion. It's mild and not very abrasive so it works really well for sneakers, just put a dab on the area you want to clean and wipe it out with a soft cloth. White polishes are decent and usually work fairly well too, but like any colored polish they generally have to be re-applied every so often as they rub off with wear.
