Should a teenager fold his jeans and have them cut to length later?

I still had my first blue jeans, a pair of Marlboro Classics that has acquired a beautiful subtle fade on the knees (this line doesn't have pre-faded washes). I'm probably donating it to a cousin who's about 17 and headed for college (kids wear uniforms in high school here).

Simple question is, should I advise him to fold them up for a while and have them cut to length when he's sure he won't grow taller anymore?

Sadly, I have a couple of pairs of jeans that were cut about an inch too short by mistake. These jeans are somewhat sentimental, and my cousin can probably use them for a long time. It's also improbably that he'll have the money to buy his own pair of premium jeans for at least five years.
