Question: PC --> HDTV via HDMI

Are there any computer enthusiasts on sufu who has their HDTVs hooked up to PCs?

I've been using an S-video cable but the native resoultion of my HDTV is so high that everything looks blurry.

What do I need? A new videocard with an HDMI out?

Are there cards that you would recommend for <100 bucks.

I don't know shit about computers.

herpsky, do you want to be using both the monitor and the hdtv at the same time? if not just replace the monitor w/ the hdtv using a dvi->hdmi cord.

I would try not use S-video because it only carries SD signals.

I myself have used DVI and HDMI and if you have either of these ports on your PC and HDTV then all you would need to buy are the cables. Not every PC or HDTV have these ports.

The tv has some HDMI ports but the PC doesn't have any.

The DVI port from the PC is already in use (DVI to an LCD screen).

Then you will need a 2-port DVI switch. Check out the Iogear switches, I only hear good things about them.

You could also use VGA but I wouldn't use recommend it.

DVI and HDMI transfer video data in an identical manner, in a digital format. The only difference is that HDMI also transfers audio through the same cable. Component cables transfer data in an analog format. Below is the heirachy in order of quality best to worst:

1. DVI or HDMI

2. Component

3. S-Video

4. Composite (through RCA connections)

Most people will choose HDMI, because you only need one cable for both audio and video.
