WTF happened in LES?!?!?

I'm just back from a 10 days trip in NYC. Of course I went to Lower East Side. In Orchard Street, one of my fave places they have destroyed a lot of houses including Alife and Seven stores. Anybody knows what they wanna build there?

Another place I miss: the garage on the corner of Houston and Broadway. Now there's an Adidas Superstore.

Their building a huge W hotel on Orchard Street. I believe they bought the air rights ontop of Alife and are building a high rise building. Shame.
