This is why I wouldn't support quality denim that comes out of China. I know some on here would love to see China make quality selvedge denim, but if cheap selvedge is what you want then there is only one way to get it and it is by forcing people to work for below a living wage.

the pictures that accompany the print version show some jeans, not sure what brands they are though... maybe someone from the UK can scan them.

edit. interesting fact about the genoese sailors in the 16th century. maybe their descendants should sue levis?

I remember reading somewhere how several of the so-called high-end American companies who pretend to offer products "made in the USA" use indeed denim coming from factories and laundries like these. They just do a little extra distressing or whatever in the US to be able to put the "made in the USA" tag on their jeans.

that would be meaningless because they'd have to sue all the other companies that produce jeans as well.

besides, there is no copyright or trademark for making jeans itself, levis only secured copyright over the leather patch design, the arcuate and the red tab.
